The Super Showcase in Greenville SC did not disappoint with two good games. The first game was between South Carolina powerhouses Dorman High School 5A and Christ Church Episcopal 2A, headlined by Jalen Breazeale of Dorman and Florida State’s signee John Butler of Christ Church. The second game between nationally recognized programs of Lake Norman Christian and Ypsi Academy, headlined by Espn 2023 Top #5 Mickey Williams of Lake Norman and ESPN 2022 Top player Emoni Bates of Ypsi Prep.
Dorman 51 – Christ Church 47
Dorman
Jalen Breazeale 5’10 (2021) PG/ Combo – Controlled the game and scored when needed. Put a lot of pressure on the defense with his quickness, finding himself at the free-throw line multiple times. He is a blur in transition, using an array of finishes. Shots the ball from all spots on the floor.
Jordyn Surratt- 6’6 (2022) F Athlete – He is aggressive attacking the basket. Really good defensively. Capable of guarding multiple positions. Shot the 3pt shot extremely well.
Noah Clowney (2022) 6’8 PF – Clowney is a nice sized power forward, that runs the floor extremely. Explosive in the interior and solid defensively.
Christ Church
Jordan Butler 6’10 (2023) PF- A talented forward that has great touch. Nice face up game, with an ability to play with his back to the basket with physicality. He is a potential matchup problem. Shoots the 3pt. well, rebounds out of space and alters, and blocks shots at an high level.
John Butler 7’1 (Florida State) PF- John is long athletic, slender big. Has the ability to score on all levels. Has issues at times with physicality at times but able to respond with skill. Hit timely 3’s. Needs to stay aggressive at all times. When aggressive, he was difficult to guard.
Sam Perry 6’3 (2022) G- A big-body guard that really attacks the basket off of the dribble. Used physicality on most of his drives against good defenders and finished through length. Showed a nice 3pt shot
Lake Norman Christian 68 – Ypsi Prep 64
Ypsi Prep
Emoni Bates (Michigan State) G/F 6’9- He didn’t disappoint. Multi-talented guard/ forward with length. He does a lot of things at a high level. At times settles for the long 3pt shot, but can attack from anywhere on the floor. He can be a better rebounder and help-side defender, blocking shots. Still young and will continue to progress. Great player with high-level ability.
JaVaughn Hannah (2022) 6’4 G- Nice bodied shooting guard, that has an elite jump shot. Really shoots the 3pt shot well, but can also penetrate and finish at the basket. High IQ, and uses his great shooting to set everything up. Scores the basketball in bunches. Defends the position as
Shawn Phillips (2022) 6’10 C- big-bodied interior presence, that really takes up space, and rebounds the basketball. Alters shots, on penetration, and a really good offensive rebounder. Work in progress with interior footwork, but really has a nice over the shoulder jump hook. The future is bright for Phillips.
Lake Norman
Mikey Williams (2023) G- A good athletic guard, that has poise. He is good with the basketball, capable of running the ball screen, and can attack one on one. Plays above the rim, and really showed a good 3pt shot. Really enjoyed how he took on the challenge and competed win or lose.
Joyful Hawkins (2022) PF- Hawkins really has a good motor and a quick second jump off of the floor. Rebounds out of space and plays hard. Really impacts the game in a variety of ways other than scoring.
Jonathan Kurtas (2021) (SIU-Edwardsville) C – A physical presence, that gets better each and every time I see him. Defensively plays position defense, runs the floor well, and capable of catches with finishes. Rebounds with aggression and physicality. Has added interior scoring and looks to have a nice shot from 15ft. His best basketball is to come.
