The Liberty Flames are off to a solid start this season, sitting at 9-6 on the season and getting ready to start conference play in the ASUN.  One of the biggest reasons why they sit in that position (and could have been more with a few narrow losses) has been the play of senior guard Darius McGhee, who is putting some outstanding numbers up this year.

On the season, McGhee is averaging 21.9 points per game, shooting nearly 46 percent from the floor, 38 percent from three, averaging 4.1 made 3-pointers a game and also contributing 3.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.

McGhee has been electric this season… He has posted 20+ point games in 11 games so far, has had 11 games in which he has hit four or more 3-pointers, and he has shined his brightest in some big games for his team this season; just take a look at some of his biggest performances against some of the biggest teams this season.

Vs. LSU: 36 minutes, 22 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists
vs. Missouri: 35 minutes, 20 points, 5 3-pointers, 4 assists, 5 steals
vs. ECU: 37 minutes, 27 points, 5 3-pointers, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks, 1 steal
vs. UNI: 36 minutes, 22 points, 4 assists
vs. Stanford: 37 minutes, 41 points, 7 3-pointers, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals
vs. BYU: 37 minutes, 29 points, 5 assists

McGhee is the clear leader for this team; that can be seen in the stats as he ranks 1st in the country in percentage of shots for his team (38.4) according to Kenpom.  When watching him this season though, he is just reminding all of us what he showed back in high school, especially his time at Roxboro where he put on an absolute show.  In his high school career in North Carolina, McGhee averaged 28.7 points per game throughout his career in the NC and finished his junior season averaging 36.4 points per game, before playing at Blue Ridge where he averaged nearly 20ppg and won a state title.

The senior guard has had a special career and is quickly rising up the ranks in total points at Liberty.  He also is showing to be one of the more prolific scorers in the country this year, which is why he is a can't miss player this season that you will want to watch and monitor more in college basketball.
