With Auburn’s latest commitment from JT Thor, a 6’8 forward from Georgia, the Tigers are gathering an impressive class nationally for 2020. With signed letters of intent already from 5-star Sharife Cooper, forward Chris Moore, and guard Justin Powell, along with the commitment from Thor, Auburn is looking in great shape to bring in a Top-10 recruiting class for the upcoming season under head coach Bruce Pearl.
In speaking with a few of those commits, they think that there could be something special with this group.
Justin Powell: “I think we have a chance to be an extremely special class. We all fit the system of Auburn well and the sky is the limit in my eyes. I think we all bring something unique to the table and each has different skill sets that will complement each other and fit well at Auburn. We all have different playing styles but we all compete and work hard, so we can bring a variety of scoring options.”
Chris Moore: “We are “special” right now, four guys at four different positions and a lot of upside. We still have room for guys to come join us. At this point, I think any help will be great for our team and class. We do have a chance to be among the best ever but we will have to wait and see how that plays out.”
Cooper leads the group coming into Auburn, as the 5-star point guard should be an absolute stud at the next level. Averaging 30.6 points, 7.8 assists, and 3.6 steals per game this season at McEachern, Cooper is one of the top dynamic guards in the country coming in as a freshman and should make his mark early.
Thor gives Auburn a 6’9 long and athletic versatile forward that excels in getting up the floor. His ability to start the break as well as finish, along with his ability to be a threat with range, Thor certainly should thrive in the Tigers’ system.
Moore is looking to bring multiple things to the court. He loves to rebound and also get after it on defense, something he says that he is known for. But Moore certainly will provide another 6’7 frame to the floor that will look to be a leader on and off the court.
Lastly, Powell is looking to not only bring his shooting capabilities but also his ability to facilitate, seeing the floor well and getting to his spots. He will look to fill in whatever role is called upon him from the coaching staff but many will label him as a shooter, something that he has certainly earned.
With these four and possibly a few other players being targeted to add to the class, Auburn is looking to put the SEC and the country on notice, as this class could be something special.
