The NC Top 80 brought a ton of talent to the table for our scouts and national analysts, as several players really made a statement with their play against the best. A few sophomores participated in the NC Top 80, proving that they belong with some of the best in the state. The one prospect that really played well and certainly improved their stock was 2027 6’5 RJ Moore from Corvian Community.
Moore is a familiar name with Phenom Hoops, as we have highlighted him on several occasions. Not long ago, we had this to say about watching him this past high school season.
“Moore is coming off a special freshman season in leading the team and he looks to be ready to take the next step as a sophomore. There is a lot of intrigue with his development and skillset, as he has a knack for being an offensive weapon, being able to score from multiple levels, score over defenders, knock down shots, show crafty handles, and still has a ton of potential left in his game. But it was clear that Moore is taking on the weight once again to be the clear leader for this group and he is a rising talent in the Class of 2027 to start taking notice of more.”
Fast-forward through the NC Top 80, it was Moore who came out red hot and made a statement with his play. Moore, whose father is Ricky Moore who played at UConn and is now an assistant at NC A&T, rally flourished in his ability to score from a variety of levels. He showed his ability to knock down shots with a ton of confidence and range, pulling up off the dribble and rising over defenders with ease. But with his 6’5 frame, length, and athleticism, he does a great job in creating for himself and finishing. He continues to flourish with his versatility and we are eager to see how much more he develops and adds to his frame. But Moore certainly proved he belongs with some of the top names in North Carolina for the Class of 2027, as more schools enter the mix. Right now, he holds offers from Wake Forest, High Point, and North Carolina A&T.
