There are many intriguing teams around the Greensboro area that fans of high school basketball should have their eyes on.  There is a duo though in the area that has captured the eyes of some, especially when they have gotten a glimpse of their style of play.

Shining Light Academy, under head coach Harold Cone, has been an interesting team to watch.  You may have gotten a chance to watch them on the Hoop State Network against Reidsville early in the season or against the likes of Lake Norman Christian and others.

If you have, you should certainly know of the firepower behind the duo of juniors Will Rhodes and Nasir Gibbs.  Both have been putting up some terrific numbers this season, especially with their scoring ability.  Rhodes is averaging 24 points and Gibbs isn’t far behind, averaging 22 points.  These two have been putting on a show and both have enjoyed playing with each other, and with their style of play.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience thus far playing basketball at Shining Light,” Rhodes told Phenom Hoops.  “It is a lot of playing with Coach Cone and all my teammates in his fast-paced offense.  It is also nice to play for a coach that trusts me and Nasir to lead the team and gives us the confidence we need to be successful… It is fun playing with Nasir; we have played on AAU teams in the past, so we know each other’s game and he helps carry the load and takes a lot of pressure off me at different times.  He is a great teammate and when he gets in his rhythm, he is a fun player to watch.”

“I think it is great to have him as a teammate and to have another great scorer beside me,” Gibbs said.

These are two prolific scorers in North Carolina and when you look at their games, they look to feed off each other.  Gibbs is a quick guard that fills up the stat sheet quickly, getting to his spots and out in transition.  He is a threat to score once he crosses half court, as the crafty, athletic guard can assert himself from multiple levels.  Rhodes can also score very well on all three levels of the floor, but also likes to get his teammates involved when he can.  The confident guard leads both on and off the court but also showcases a nice ability to create for himself, a terrific penetrator, and one that brings a ton of confidence to the floor.

If you haven’t had a chance to watch the terrific duo yet at Shining Light Academy, make sure you tune in; these two certainly put on a show and should certainly be two players that could play at the next level and will have the attention of college coaches as well.
