Up in the state of Virginia, Highland high school is a program that is catching some eyes with the talent they have on the court. One of those players has been 2024 Isaiah Abraham, as the sophomore has been producing on the court and grabbing the attention of several college programs.
Phenom Hoops spoke to the talented sophomore about his season so far and which schools are catching his eye.
Phenom: How has the season been going for you personally and for your team'
Abraham: This season has been pretty good. We’ve had a lot of setbacks with injuries and sorts but have been pretty good with bouncing back. Our main goal at the moment is to win stats and I think if we really lock in as a team, we will be able to reach that goal. Personally, I think I have improved over the year. I’ve gotten more comfortable and effective with creating space off the dribble and being a reliable defender on defense. My goals at the beginning of the season were to put up consistent and high numbers on the stat sheet, not by focusing solely on scoring but focusing on impacting the game off the ball. I feel that I have definitely met those goals.
Phenom: You have some great talent on your team. What is it like playing with them and how has it made you better'
Abraham: Having the talent that we have lets us play more together as a team. I love going against and competing against them in practice because it ultimately makes me a better player. The older guys give me knowledge that I can take in and apply to my game to make my game that much better.
Phenom: How would you best describe your game'
Abraham: I would best describe my game as a player who hustles and plays defense and gets to my spots in which I know I can succeed on the offensive end. Also, attacking and finishing at the rim with power. I model my game after Paul George.
Phenom: Recruitment has gone well for you. What has been the latest for you'
Abraham: Virginia invited me to go to the Virginia vs. Duke game.
Phenom: You hold a few offers already. Which schools have offered and who has been staying in touch with you'
Abraham: I hold offers from Bowie State, North Texas, Georgetown, Howard, George Mason, and North Carolina A&T. Georgetown and George Mason recently have been staying in touch with me.
Phenom: What have those schools that have offered already been talking or telling you early on' What do they like about your game' And do any stand out early on'
Abraham: All the schools were impressed with my ability to create space and knock down my shots. They were more impressed with the way I handled myself with off-the-ball stats like rebounding and defensive plays. My athleticism and energy were also a key factor that they talked to me about. Georgetown and George Mason stand out to me because of the effort that they have put towards me in the recruiting process.
Phenom: How was the visit to Virginia' Have they expressed interest your way'
Abraham: I was looking forward to watching how the players in my position play in the system. I was also excited to see how they match up with Duke. They came to some of our practices and games. I will be taking a more in-depth visit to Virginia when their season is over but other than that, nothing else at the moment.
