We continue our coverage of the South Carolina Top 80, a terrific event that brought some tremendous talent all under one building.  Phenom Hoops was impressed with the talent that was on display, but a few names really captured our eyes.  One of those players that earned our attention was 2022 6’2 Xzavier Thaggard from Trinity Collegiate.  The senior guard took home Mr. Hustle, an award that was well-deserved with what he showed on the court.

Here is what was written about his game, per his evaluation:

“He’s a tough, skilled, incredibly explosive guard prospect with the ability to score the ball in a wide variety of ways. Thaggard is a relentless offensive piece with the combination of IQ, crafty ball-handling, and blinding quickness to break down nearly any opponent and access whatever shot he desires. He’s phenomenal transition and applies constant pressure in the open floor, but has no issue finding opportunities in the half-court. Thaggard is a useful passer and defender with the necessary anticipation to force turnovers at the point of attack. He’s able to finish above the rim or through copious amounts of contact, but also shoots the ball well from the perimeter.”

He was terrific at the camp, averaging 16.0 points per game throughout the event and really showing just how explosive he can be on the floor. He has an extremely quick first-step that he used well to attack defenses and never settled, finishing several tough baskets and getting at the rim. With his athleticism on the floor, his ability to attack out in transition, scored in a variety of ways, and finish tough, Thaggard is one of the more underrated guards in the state.
