Greetings HS hoops junkies from across the playoff watching Piedmont! The Great One is here to release his latest F5 rankings. States are winding down to the Ring Round later this week and as usual the West Regional Finals is doubling as the Furious 5 Championship game. Several games last week featured F5 members playing knockout with each other as Chambers took out both Myers Park and Independence. North Meck also ended Weddington’s season on advancing to the Regional Finals to face familiar foe Chambers. This is the 4th time these teams have played this season but this is a winner-take-all game in the West and a ticket to the state finals is at stake. The state was stunned by the Lake Norman-gate scandal that caused the LNHS administration to cancel the Lakers season and they were, in turn, dropped from the F5 but finish on the DSO list as recognition for a good season. As a result, Myers Park advanced to play Chambers via forfeit in the regional semis and secured a place in the 5. That’s not bad for a team that started out 1-7 this season. Without further delay let’s get…….TO THE 5!!!!
1. NORTH MECK – THE VIKINGS DOWNED WEDDINGTON AND WATAUGA IN SECURING A BERTH IN THE WEST REGIONAL FINALS AND THE F5 TITLE GAME AGAINST CHAMBERS.
2. CHAMBERS – THE COUGARS STOPPED INDEPENDENCE AND MYERS PARK ON THEIR WAY TO A DATE WITH RIVAL NORTH MECK FOR ALL THE WEST REGIONAL AND F5 MARBLES.
3. WEDDINGTON – THE TRIBE LOST TO NORTH MECK, SEASON COMPLETE
4. INDEPENDENCE – THE PATRIOTS LOST TO CHAMBERS, SEASON COMPLETE
5. MYERS PARK – THE MUSTANGS LOST TO CHAMBERS, SEASON COMPLETE
Don’t Sleep On: Catholic, Hopewell, Mooresville, Lake Norman
There you have it folks! Check back next week with the final F5 of the season. Who will take the Furious 5 title? We’ll find out Wednesday in Winston. Stay tuned!!!
