Greetings HS hoops junkies from across the finally sunny and clear piedmont! The Sadster is here to recap the Regional Finals and give out his winners of the state title hardware. The Great One is suffering through a difficult prognosticating campaign as the ol cubic zirconia ball (cant afford crystal) is having maintenance issues. The fogginess has cleared up somewhat as he posted a mediocre 5-3 record, bringing his overall record to 43-26. However, it’s not how you start, but how you finish that counts. The Sad One will attempt to sweep the board this Saturday and will even throw in a bonus pick from the Ladies 4A bracket. Recapping the 4A West, two undefeated teams met at Ardrey Kell as North Meck tried to leave The Kastle with a trip to the state title game as well as the Furious 5 title. The Knights weren’t going for it and thanks to top notch efforts from former AK ballboy Knoah Carver and Elijah Gray, escaped with a 3 point last minute win. Thank God for the home court draw! In the 4A East, Millbrook turned away pesky Lumberton by 2 in OT as the Cats finally get to the finals. In the 3A West, Weddington continues to roll as they brushed their teeth with Crest by 24 and in the 3A East, Cinderella Northwood stunned West Carteret by 3. In 2A action, Farmville Central tallied 113 points in a blowout win over upstart Northeastern. No team has come within 18 of Farmville but beware of the 4 syllable teams as they will face Hendersonville who topped North Lincoln by 16. In the 1A West, Lincoln Charter is making a familiar trip to the finals via a 10 point win over Mt. Airy and in the East, Wilson Prep continued its own march to Wheatmore by downing Riverside by 16. We now focus on the finals as there are 4 great matchups on the card for Saturday. To the State Championship picks!!!!!
