Greetings HS hoops junkies from across the suddenly mild piedmont. It’s time for The Great One to delve out his grades for the 1st half of the I-MECK conference season. Keep in mind that these grades are based on the order of finish that the Sadster predicted using the ol’ cubic zirconia ball (can’t afford crystal) in the preseason. Criteria for these grades include, but are not limited to, what place teams are in relation to where they’re predicted to finish, upset wins, wins against higher opponents and losses to lower opponents. Now The Amazing One will reveal who is at the head of the class, who is treading water, and who needs to burn the midnight oil.
NORTH MECK – A…. the Vikings ran the table in the first half but without starting point guard Vaud Worthy.
HOPEWELL- C…. won big one at West Charlotte but dropped home game to Hough.
WEST CHARLOTTE – C-…. lost a home game to Hopewell, has tough road games in the second half.
HOUGH – C-…. had a bad loss at home against Mallard Creek but stole one at Hopewell.
LAKE NORMAN – B…. lost in two overtimes to 2nd place Hopewell, beat Vance in overtime.
VANCE – D…. the Cougars drowned at the Lake and lost in 3 OT’s to Hopewell.
MALLARD CREEK – B…. sneaked out of Hough with a win, nipped Lake Norman in overtime, and lost to Hopewell by 1.
MOORESVILLE – D-…. the Devils haven’t figured out that they can at least be competitive.
There you have it folks! We now know who needs to hit the books in order to make the grade in the second half of the season. It will be very interesting down the stretch in the conference race to see who makes the state playoffs and who watches it from the bleachers. Injuries could play a key role. Stay tuned!!!!!!!!
