Greetings HS hoops junkies from across the soggy and chilly Piedmont! The Great One is here to recap his GOTW for last week had Chambers traveling to North Meck’s Senior Night for Round 2 of their season series. The Sadster’s first ever GOTW was North Meck’s 76-73 win over the Cougars in Round 1 of the season series at Chambers. This time the Cougars were playing “in revenge” as they needed a win to have a chance to tíe for 1st place in the QC Conference. However, the Vikings had other plans as they cruised to an 83-62 win.
The 1st quarter was sloppy as Chambers shot three air balls from three-point land and North didn’t fair much better but forged a 13-10 lead. The 2nd frame began with a Viking mini-run that built a 9-point lead after a Chadlyn Traylor trey. Later in the period, Zion Williams posterized a Cougar via a transition dunk and another Traylor three-ball built a 40-22 lead with 1:26 to go in the half. Tarris Bouie kept the Cougars within shouting distance with dribble penetration as the North D limited his perimeter looks. Marcus Kerr had 9 to lead Chambers. The Vikings took a 44-24 cushion to the dressing room.
The 3rd quarter found Chambers pulling out a press that was successful in the first matchup but this time the Vikings were waiting on it. Well into the period, Malik McCotter did begin to heat up for the Cougars as his teammates remained cold. After an Exzavier Young block led to a Carson Evans dunk, the floodgates opened. Another Cougar airball produced another Evans dunk which was followed by dunks by Young and Traylor, for a total of 5 in a row, which built an insurmountable 65-42 lead at the end of the 3rd. Throughout the game, 2nd shots were hard to come by for Chambers as Exzavier Young and his crew were active on the boards, preventing an expected Cougar run. The 4th quarter was a slower pace and reserves were subbed liberally bringing the final tally of 83-62. Seniors Carson Evans and Chadlyn Traylor tallied 21 and 18 points respectively and Exzavier Young posted an 18 and 12 rebound stat line. Ashton Pierce also chipped in 17 points for the Vikings. The Cougars were paced by Kerr who had 20 and Malik McCotter added 18. North Meck clinched the top seed for the QC tourney and Chambers will hold down the #2 seed.
There you have it folks! The Sadster will return with another Game of the Week (health permitting) this Friday and will announce which one Friday morning. Check back next week for a preview of conference tournaments and a recap of his final regular season GOTW. Stay tuned!!!!
