Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Jason Nelson
Class: 2021
Committed to: Richmond

What the Player Said:

PHR: What made Richmond the place for you to call home?

Nelson: I really like how they use their guards and they love small guards like myself.  I feel like I fit into their system perfectly and playing in front of my family is big.

PHR: How does your game fit in with their system? How do they want to use you in the future?

Nelson: Richmond loves small guards and I’m 5’10 and they also run plays through the guards and let them play and do what they do best.

PHR: What did the staff say when you told them? How excited were they?

Nelson: The staff was very excited and happy when they first heard it and is ready for me to help the team in any kind of way.

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

“He’s a wiry, incredible smart point guard prospect with quickness, vision, and the ability to absolutely carve up the opposition with his penetration skills. Nelson is so deceptive with the ball in his hands, able to truly manipulate the defense in a variety of different ways while always looking to make the best possible play. He scores the ball efficiently from all three levels and possesses the shiftiness to get defenders on their heels. Nelson is also a very nice defender, especially for his size, and forces turnovers at an excellent rate. Coach Delenia on Nelson: “Jason does a great job of getting his team involved for easy shots. He’s a crafty playmaker that can score from all levels. He maintained a positive attitude and team-first mentality throughout the day.” – Virginia Phenom 150 evaluation

“Skilled, intelligent, quick, crafty, scrappy, tough are all adjectives that accurately describe Jason.  He has a great skill set, plays with confidence and poise.  Jason is one of the most complete playmakers in Virginia.  He displays solid floor leadership, great vision, and elite passing skills.  He is very athletic, strong, and knows how to exploit mismatches.  He has tremendous ball-handling skills, changes speed effortlessly, and can knock down shots from all levels.” – Frank Bennett in 2020
