2022 Davis Wagner (Lake Norman)
There’s several guys that always stand out for Lake Norman but it’s very clear that Davis is the leader of this group and it really shouldn’t be any other way. With a lot of talented underclassmen, it’s very fitting and crucial to have a senior lead the way in setting the standard in terms of tone and taking care of intangibles. Nothing flashy about his game but it’s productive and efficient as well as tough, which holds way more stock in my book.
2023 Bryson Davis (Mallard Creek)
After a quiet first half where Titus Cunningham stood out, Bryson really took control in the second half and led a rallying comeback win. The Mavericks turned up their pressure and Bryson really began to thrive, being set up to attack and finish strong with his frame and balance. Some of the moves he made you could only describe as bully ball, and it’s not that he’s big because he barely hits 6’0 but it’s his mentality and tenacious approach when sizing guys up.
2023 Cole Callaway (Lake Norman)
Most people will mark down Cole as a shooter but he proved much more than that today and has been all fall. The game seems like it’s slowing down around him as he attacks the basket and puts moves to use with his improved muscular frame and tight handle on the ball. But just to remind everybody too, he knocked down a couple deep ones from another area code with ease. Look for him to have big games on a nightly basis this season with the expansion of his game beyond the 3pt line.
2023 Nick Elliot (Grimsley)
This is a sharpshooter you’re gonna want to familiarize yourself with because you will be hearing his name a lot more. He’s got the quick trigger and long frame with his smooth stroke that make him perfect for the position. Made a lot of big time shots when needed in a high caliber win over Bishop McGuinness and also a lot of hustle plays. Expect an All-Conference season out of the Grimsley shooter as they face a tough schedule in NC 4A.
2023 Kirsten Lewis-Williams (Lake Norman)
Kirsten’s ball handling and quickness separate her from the rest of the pack. She excels at breaking down defenders with the key being change of speed and direction. Shows nice patience with hesitations and court awareness to make finishing moves with quality footwork and taking advantage of the defense. Pair her with big post Aly Wadkovsky and there’s a real dynamic duo to lead a solid all around group at the Lake this year.
2022 Spencer Hairston (Dudley)
This season has the potential to be a field day for Spencer based on how many guys close out lazy with their hands down. It’s honestly a layup from deep for this dude, he torched guys with his quick trigger smooth stroke. It doesn’t matter if it’s off the bounce, spot up or off sets, he stays ready and every shot looks in. Most dangerous as a shooter obviously, but also has real quickness in his step and court vision to make plays if he gets run off the line.
