What a weekend it was in Boone, North Carolina as the Mountaineers opened up the football season against an in-state foe in the Tar Heels of North Carolina.' It was one of the biggest events in the state and Boone was rocking with excitement, as the program also brought in some big-time basketball recruits as well.

2023 Jakel Powell, 2024 Maurio Hanson, and 2024 Austin Swartz are all North Carolina prospects that were on campus for a visit, while 2023 6'8 Josh Hayes from Florida was also on deck for the camp.  We spoke to the players that were on campus to visit and see the game, as they seemed to enjoy their time there.

2023 Jakel Powell:

'They showed a lot of love; felt very welcomed.  They showed me everything and the experience with the team, just chilling with them and them showing me around. The people there are very nice, and the football game was fun.  They treat me right; I can tell it is a genuine type of relationship (with the staff) and they really want me there.'

2024 Maurio Hanson:

'It was an amazing great atmosphere. Great people and loved the mountains, nice vibes up there. Had a tour around campus, as the staff took me around a lot of Appalachian State fans during the tailgate.  Love the people that showed me love. Was able to meet the whole staff as well.  The experience was amazing, the fans were awesome, the stadium was loud, and the coaching staff was nice; people were awesome as well.'

2024 Austin Swartz:

'The game was awesome. It was the first college football game I've ever been to.' It was crazy. The visit was good. I was surprised about how big the gym was, I wasn't expecting it to be that big. We did a lot before the game, just telling me this was what the atmosphere will be like.
