The LIVE Period has come and gone over the last few weeks and offers are rolling out from college coaches around the country. What is great about this part of the year is seeing which players start seeing their recruitment taking the next step and hitting another level. One of those players that we over two years ago as a young prospect is now seeing his recruitment hit another level.
2024 Sammie Yeanay was a standout with Phenom Hoops years ago. When watching him operate, his skillset, his size, and his ability, it was easy to see that he would be a target for many. Though many still didn’t know about the young man at that time, we wrote this about Yeanay: Huge Upside and Potential: 2024 6’6 Sammie Yeanay
Fast forward to today, Yeanay has racked in a few big offers and added his first high-major offer to his list, along with several big interests as well. We spoke with Yeanay about all the latest, his year at The Rock School, and his recruitment. Here is what he had to say.
Phenom: How was this past season at The Rock for you and how did it help you develop your game'
Yeanay: Well, you know I was a mid-year transfer, so it was really me trying to build chemistry with my teammates and the coaching staff. At The Rock, we weight lift and train four times a week, so I really think that took a major part in my game.
Phenom: How has your game developed over the last year or two'
Yeanay: I got more comfortable being on the perimeter. (I’m still working on) my ballhandling, a better jump shot, and getting stronger. Really everything, never satisfied.
Phenom: Overall, how has your recruitment been going for you in your eyes'
Yeanay: It was always going, I just needed to showcase more of my talent.
(Currently holds offers from Alabama, North Florida, and Jacksonville State)
Phenom: Your latest offers was your biggest so far. What were your thoughts about the offer from Alabama and that program' How excited were you about that offer'
Yeanay: Because it was my biggest offer, it meant a lot to me. I’m thankful that Coach Pettway enjoyed watching me play and it is an honor for me to be considered to play for the University of Alabama.
Phenom: What do you know or is there anything that stands out about the program'
Yeanay: I know that they reached the Sweet 16 in 2021. This season, they made their fourth NCAA appearance in the last decade. And of course, some players like JD Davidson and Jahvon Quinerly.
Phenom: How strong have the other schools that have offered been with you'
Yeanay: Most of the schools are in constant contact with me and my family.
(Latest Interests: Florida, Florida State, Texas Tech, and Kansas)
Phenom: What have you heard from those schools that are showing interest'
Yeanay: They like the way I’m physical and I can score and play defense.
Phenom: Have you been able to visit any schools'
Yeanay: No sir, not at the moment.
