Heritage has been garnering some intriguing talent over the years and they seem to be in line for yet another in 2021 6’5 Lucas Taylor.  Taylor has started off his season in style, averaging 22.0 points per game for the Huskies and has been a name on the rise in the state of North Carolina.

In out latest 1-on-1, Taylor discussed how his season has gone so far and the latest around his recruitment, as several schools seem to be showing interest his way.

PHR: How has the season been going for you and the team at Heritage so far?

Taylor: “It’s been going pretty well so far.  We are 4-4 right now and have played some tough teams.  We are looking to go on a run after beating Leesville this past week.  For myself though, the season has been good.  Trying to focus on really rebounding every game consistently along with getting my teammates involved a lot more.”

PHR: What has been your focus on improving your game and showing what you can do on the court?

Taylor: “Just making sure to not settle for three’s and showing my all-around game.  Getting to the basket and handling the ball a lot more.”

PHR: How would you best describe your game on the floor?

Taylor: “An all-around scorer that plays defense and can get his teammates involved.”

PHR: Have you been hearing from any college programs?

Taylor: “Davidson, Western Carolina, Clemson, VMI, The Citadel, Charlotte, Liberty, Ohio University, Appalachian State, East Carolina, Lehigh, Virginia Tech, College of Charleston, Belmont, George Mason, Rice, Holy Cross, NC State, Yale, Columbia, and Georgetown.  Those are the schools I consistently hear from.”

PHR: Any offers that you currently hold?

Taylor: “No offers, these schools are just saying they will be down to watch games soon.”

PHR: Who would you say has been the strongest out of them and what have they been saying to you?

Taylor: “Definitely Charlotte, Davidson, Virginia Tech, and Yale.  They are saying they like my skill set being a bigger guard, scoring on all three levels.  They like how I get it on defense as well.”

PHR: Have you made any visits or plan on making any?

Taylor: “I’ve been to Charlotte, Georgetown, East Carolina, and Appalachian State.  (Plan on) going to NC State soon.”

PHR: What did you like about each of those visits?

Taylor: “Charlotte was really a family atmosphere and the campus is really nice and the coaches are great as well.  Georgetown is really nice too.  Everything is very close and the area is huge.  For East Carolina, one of my former teammates Jayden Gardner goes there, which is a great connection.  And Appalachian State, the area is super nice up in the mountains; that is very cool.”

PHR: What are you hoping to see out of NC State visit and any specific date set?

Taylor: “I’m going to go sometime in the new year.  No date set yet.  But NC State is a great school.  I’m definitely interested in (them).  Love what Coach Keatts has going there.”

PHR: Has any of those schools said anything about a potential offer?

Taylor: “Charlotte tells me I’m high on their recruiting board; that is about it.”

What has been said by Phenom before?

” He’s long, athletic, and skilled which makes him a matchup problem at his size and position. Taylor is an impressive offensive player but has even more tools and ability on the defensive end. He’s a likely candidate to start collecting Division I offers this season.” – Jeff Bendel in Nov 2019

“Another athletic wing along with Dunton, Taylor has fantastic athleticism as well as an ability to be a shooter from outside.  He consistently got downhill, using his size to finish strong as well as knockdown perimeter shots.  He also rebounded the ball well.  Taylor has an interesting blend of an offensive game to go with his intriguing size and length.” – Patrick O’Brien in 2019 game report
