Number 23 Carmel Christian Looks to Continue Win Streak

Appalachian State commit Donovan Gregory

Phenom's National High School Showcase is an event where reputations are, not only made, but cemented. You can rest assured that Carmel Christian School will not be creeping up on anyone this season. They are a consensus Top 50 program in the country, by all accounts and have a roster as deep as anyone.

Fab50 ranking, which is powered by Ball is Life, had Carmel Christian starting the 2018-19 season ranked 23rd overall. Looking closely at it on paper, that ranking makes a ton of sense coming into the season. They are coming off a 24-4 record and a NCISAA 2A state title. The team has everyone returning, and they picked up a couple of major pieces along the way.

Leading the way is Appalachian State commit 6'4' Donovan Gregory, he led the team in scoring last year at 20 per game, while adding 8 rebounds and 3 assists. New addition 6'6' Deangelo Epps, a College of Charleston commit, comes over from Charlotte Country Day having averaged 18 points, 7 boards and 2.5 assists. Both players are high impact two-way defenders who can create, finish and defend across the floor.

They also have seniors 6'2' Myles Pierre (Houston Baptist), 6'5' Martin Maide (Liberty), 6'7' Jake Boggs (UNC-Wilmington). They also have a pair of juniors who already carry Division 1 offers with 6'4' Ford Cooper (Rice and Tulane) and 6'5' Myles Hunter (Hampton). To say this team is loaded is an understatement.

With that said, they don't just look sexy on paper, this team plays with a tenacity. They started the year off 2-0 with an 82-62 win over Cannon School and a 98-70 win over Northwood Temple, two very talented teams. With that said, Carmel Christian, as a team, is averaging 90 points per game and winning games by an average of 24 points.

That looks every bit like what the number 23 team in the country should be doing.

Get your popcorn and make sure you camera is rolling, Carmel Christian will be playing Christ School in Phenom's National High School Showcase this Saturday (November 17). The game will be at 6PM at Greensboro Day School in Greensboro.
