It was recently announced by Jon Rothstein that Queens University of Charlotte, which has been a dominant Division II program on the basketball court, will vote this week on a possible transition to Division I.

Knowing this program for quite some time, there shouldn't be any surprise that they are looking to make this transition, especially with what head coach Bart Lundy and staff have been able to do during their tenure for the basketball program.  On the court, the Royals are currently sitting at 20-3 and in 1st place in the South Atlantic Conference this season, looking to have another special year.  But this is looking to just continue the success this program has had for quite some time.

Coach Lundy has been with this program for 13 seasons (98-99 to 02-03, 13-14-present).  He holds an overall record at Queens 323-102 (.798 percentage) and has racked up over 400 wins overall in his career. Lundy has led his team to six consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and he is looking well on his way once again.

Lundy has also led Queens University of Charlotte to the 2003 and 2018 Final Four, to the 2001 and 2019 Elite 8 as well.  In the last seven years, Queens has been to six consecutive National Tournaments, has won the SAC Regular Season in 2017 and 2019, and was the 2017 SAC Tournament Champions.  And let us not forget, Queens University also holds wins vs. VCU in an exhibition game in 2016 and took down Howard University at the 2020 Paradise Jam.

If you have been around the college basketball scene, you have heard countlessly that Queens is a program you DON'T want to see because they continue to be a tough outing, understand how to simply win, and wouldn’t surprise anyone if they knocked off an opponent.  They continue to have talent, they continue to produce, and under Coach Lundy and his staff, this is a program that looks to be ready to make the next jump.
