Upward Stars York County 14U

Phenom Hoop Report is well known in bringing quality camps and tournaments to the high school level and now we will be doing the same for the middle school age groups. The inaugural Queen City Middle School Showcase will feature some of the top travel ball programs in the seventh and eighth grade. The weekend of February 24-25 will kick off action at Olympic High School and surrounding gyms/schools in the area. Today, we want to take a look at Upward Stars coached by Twuan Wilson.

For many of the players and parents, Twuan Wilson is simply known as 'Coach Twuan.'
He has been a fixture of the youth travel ball scene since 2004 and was the brain trust behind the success of the Carolina Flight. In addition, Coach Twuan is an assistant coach at York Prep in Rock Hill, South Carolina who is regarded as one of the top teams in the state regardless of class or affiliation.

Coach Twuan will be bringing a strong and athletic team to the inaugural Queen City Middle School Showcase. Today, we wanted to take a closer look at some of his impact players.

6'5 '22 Jamar Williams
Jamar is the 'baby brother' to Jaron Williams of York Prep. Big brother Jaron will be playing collegiately at Longwood University. Only in the eighth grade, Jamar closely matches Jaron in sheer size and height. In speaking with Coach Twuan, he stated, 'Jamar is a 6'5 physical power forward that rebounds and scores well under the basket. He has the ability to step out and shoot the 3-pointer. He is a hard worker who gets it done on the block.' Simply put,
you won't find many young players in the eighth grade that has his size and ability to score
from the paint and on the perimeter.

5'9 Ashton Latta
Talk about great family genes. Ashon is the nephew to WNBA star Ivory Latta and he is definitely one to put on the recruiting radar this summer. Coach Twuan stated, 'Ashton is a strong 5'9 physical guard who can handle and shoot. He finishes at the rim very well and has the ability to use his strength in posting up smaller defenders.' Ashton will bring an overall skillset that is matched by his sheer strength, size and athleticism.

6'1 Quan Peterson
Quan is a point guard who has already been playing both JV and varsity action for the past two years. Coach Twuan is really high on him and stated he has really held his own. 'Quan is a very crafty lead guard that knows how to make his teammates better. He has a very high basketball IQ. He rebounds the ball very well and scores in traffic, not to mention a great defender who gets his hands on everything.'

6'2 Jaiden Jeffrey
Upward Stars York County is loaded with athleticism and Jaiden Jeffrey is another 'thorough bred' on a quality team. Coach Twuan stated,' Jaidn is a 6'2 small forward who is very strong and athletic. He likes to get out and run. He attacks the basket and always seems to get the old fashion 3-point play. In addition, he blocks shots extremely well and has a deadly midrange.' Overall, Jaiden is a tough two-way player that gives maximum effort and energy.
