Tournament Time

Phenom Hoop Report is well known in bringing quality camps and tournaments to the high school level and now we will be doing the same for the middle school age groups. The inaugural Queen City Middle School Showcase will feature some of the top travel ball programs in the seventh and eighth grade. The weekend of February 24-25 will kick off action at Olympic High School and surrounding gyms/schools in the area. Today, we want to take a look at the Tournament Time from West Virginia.

Coach Doug Williamson of 'Tournament Time' is bringing the rural flavor of West Virginia to the Queen City. Coach Williams stated, 'We are excited to see how our small-town kids can compete against the best in North Carolina.' Looking at the roster, Coach Williamson will be bringing excellent size for a seventh- grade team. It's a terrific group of players that is both fundamentally sound and has a nice blend of athleticism.

6'2 '23 Mason McAlarnis (West Perry MS, KY)

Coming from neighboring state of Kentucky, Mason McAlarnis will bring excellent size, skill set and overall skill set to the tourney. Coach Williamson stated, 'Mason has a good inside game with soft touch, rebounds well and holds his ground. He is a bruiser underneath. He was just voted to Kentucky's 7th Grade All State Team. Mason is a hardnosed kid who can shoot the jumper or play in the post.'

6'1 '23 Aiden Slack (Logan MS, WV)

Aiden Slack also has excellent size for his grade and a matching skill set. Coach Williamson stated, 'Aiden is a competitor. He can play all five positions. In addition, he is a lock down defender. He has a unique skill set and is physically gifted for his age. More importantly, he has a very high motor and leaves it all on the floor every game.'

6'0 Tyler Day (East Perry MS, KY)

Tyler Day will definitely bring some athleticism to the team. Coach Williamson stated, 'Tyler is a slashing wing that's tough and also plays with a high motor. He's an excellent rebounder and excels attacking the rim. He is so athletic and pushes the ball well in transition.'

5'10 '23 Garrett Williamson (Logan MS, WV)

Every good team needs a point guard with good court vision and Garrett Williamson will be running the show for Tournament Time. Coach Williamson stated, 'Garret is true point guard who sees the floor really well. He runs the offense and makes good decisions in transition. Garrett has a team first attitude and is a leader on both ends of the court. He's a competitor and brings a winning attitude and a high basketball IQ.'
