Phenom Hoops continues to learn new names this summer, and one young prospect that we were able to sit down and watch was 2029 6’3 AJ Scott. Playing for Eastern Carolina Phenomz at the Phenom June Showcase, Scott brought a lot of promise and potential as we are eager to see how he develops.
Watching him though, you see a lot of flashes in his game. At his age, Scott was able to make his impact felt in a variety of ways, whether it was scoring, rebounding, being a defensive presence, or facilitating. With his family background in basketball, it was clear that Scott was a bit ahead of the curve, understanding how to create and be effective and showcase how fluid he can operate from a variety of levels. He showed tremendous confidence in attacking in transition, using his length to his clear advantage as well as his athleticism. Scott on multiple occasions finished with a throwdown as a rising 8th grader as well as finishing with touch off the dribble. However, he was also confident in stepping outside from behind the arc as well as using his length to alter shots defensively.
With what we saw, his potential, and with his family background, Scott has a chance to be a special prospect out east and should be on everyone’s watch list in the coming years.
