This past weekend, Phenom Hoops traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina our second live period of the travel ball season. Between the competition and slew of prospects, it made for a pretty exciting weekend. Like normal, college coaches came through the various sites to watch players and see who will be the next to emerge as a potential target. Considering that most of their attention was focused on the oldest age group, we will take a closer look at some individuals who stood out and warrant attention'like Jaylon Bumpass.

For those who haven't seen him, Bumpass has already established himself as a meaningful piece and productive leader for Grimsley High School. He's a long, wiry guard prospect with great size, skill, and athleticism. Bumpass is able to comfortably control the action as a primary creator or find opportunities as an off-guard, especially given his general scoring polish and ability to generate clean looks for himself and others. He's a quality all-around athlete with the necessary quickness, explosiveness, and change of direction to overwhelm most defenders. Bumpass scores the ball from all levels, sets up others whenever possible, and knows how to make his presence felt defensively. He rebounds the ball well for his size/position and pushes the break well in transition. Add in his tough, scrappy nature and leadership by example, and Bumpass is someone who could benefit a variety of different programs.

He's going to return as a focal point for the Whirlies, but college coaches would also be wise to start getting involved during his remaining time with Team Legend. Bumpass clearly has the makings of a useful college player and should see his stock continue to steadily rise over the coming months.
