Here are names that stood out at the Grassroots TOC this past weekend
The last weekend of April brought another fantastic event for Phenom Hoops, this time being the Grassroots Tipoff Classic in Greensboro, NC. Talent surrounded the area of Greensboro and college coaches looked for undiscovered talent throughout the event. Our Phenom Hoops analysts’ were searching as well, as here are some standouts that Patrick O’Brien found on his search.
Jalen McDonald (2021, Boo Williams 2020): McDonald is a stud and a name that will soon catch on nationally. Already has a great frame and skill set, he will only continue to develop which is scary to think.
Sean Simms (2020, Boo Williams 2020) Simms is another that has great size at 6’3 and has tremendous skills for his age. He is athletic and was part of the double trouble for this program.
Dantre Harvey (2018, Carolina Knights 17u): Harvey is a lengthy guard that scored the ball well. He uses his skill and size to attack the rim and score in an array of ways.
Roland Perdue II (2017, Carolina Stars Select 17u): This young man was a scoring machine. Scoring 42 points on Saturday, he backed that up again on Sunday with a 32 point performance and was one of the top scorers at the event.
Ardarryl Clay Jr (2018, Chattanooga Elite 17u): This point guard is lightning quick on the court and can get by his opponents in a flash and attack the rim. He showed that throughout the event and should catch the attention of coaches.
Jalen Johnson (2018, Durham Hurricanes 2018 Murphy): Johnson is a name that should continue his trend, as this kid is a dynamic point guard. He is strong, quick, and has that killer instinct to get a bucket when needed.
Kenny Dye (2018, Flight 22 Elite 17u): Dye might have not been a name you recognize coming in but should be coming out. He led his team in scoring in almost every game, was a solid guard, and is a state champion. Dye is a young man that took full advantage of the platform this weekend.
Ramello Williams (2018, Flight 22 Premier 17u): Williams is a known name for Phenom but it is great to see that he has continued to be a dominate guard and one that is tough to stop, something he showed this past season at New Hanover. He continues to be that alpha dog for this team and coaches will catch on soon.
Kenyon Burt (2018, NC Runnin’ Rebels): Burt just does it all for his team. He is a leader, has solid size at 6’6, continuous motor, and simply a hard worker. He can simply do it all and can be a double-double type guy.
Ody Oguama (2018, NC Red Storm): Oguama is a freak athlete and can get it done on the glass and be disruptive all over the court. He continues to develop his offensive game but should be name to watch in the coming weeks.
Yohannes Utsey (2018, Orangeburg Xpress 17u): Utsey was one of my favorite players to watch and produced every game. He was a scoring machine, moves well on the court, and his motor is continuous. He was impressive all weekend long.
Adafe Price (2018, Queen City Thunder): Price continues to blow us away and simply is a producer on the court. It is why so many programs will be coming his way this summer.
Desmond Little (2018, Sharp Shooters 17u): Little is tough, simply put. He showed he has a grown man’s game and caught eyes all weekend long at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Daivien Williamson (2018, Team Winston 17u): Williamson continues to blow us away for how good this kid is. He does it all scoring wise, scoring at all three levels. Quick guard, very skilled with a high basketball IQ. He showed that he was unstoppable scoring all weekend long.
