New names continue to pop up every week for Phenom Hoops. Some are new players that get a chance to play on the big stage but others are getting a chance to showcase their development and work. 2024 Desmond Kent Jr. could be a mixture of both, but at the Phenom Summer Showcase this past weekend, he caught our eyes with his play and potential.
Kent is a 6’3 prospect with a 6’7 wingspan; a very long and lengthy prospect that could only continue to grow into his body and get stronger. He has a nice ability to rise over defenders with his length, finish at the rim, and make plays inside the paint but also showcases his perimeter feel also. At the event in just three games, Kent really produced in a variety of ways, whether it was scoring, attacking the boards, or making plays on the defensive end. At the event, he averaged nearly 20ppg, 10rpg, and also racked up seven steals, and five blocks.
The 2024 prospect could be an intriguing, rising prospect coming through the winning program of Central Cabarrus. The young man saw limited action last year but got some valuable experience; it will be interesting to watch what he can do more this summer and next high school season. But from what we have seen so far, Kent could be one flying under the radar that could really take off soon.
