Personal: Allen is one of eight children of former NBA and European guard Lamont Strothers. His father Lamont played high school basketball in Suffolk,VA before playing collegiality at Christopher Newport University where he is the schools all time leading scorer. His 2,709 points ranks third all time in Division III. He was a first team All America selection and named Division III Player of the Year by Basketball Times in 1991. Lamont was a 2nd round pick by Golden State in 1991 and enjoyed stints with the Portland Trailblazers and Dallas Mavericks during his NBA career. Lamont had a 12 year pro career playing in nine countries, scoring almost 4000 points during a decorated PBA career! Strothers also has 15 years of coaching experience including at the professional level in Europe, collegiality at his alma mater CNU and locally at the high school and AAU level. His brother, Calvin Jr starred in football and basketball at New Hampshire. Allen has 5 older sisters, and two, Synquis and Adria played basketball. Synquis was an All Peninsula District player while at Warwick HS and played a year at North Carolina Wesleyan. Sister Adria starred at Menchville HS where she scored over 1200 points for her high school career and has earned a scholarship to play at Hampton University. His younger brother Etienne is a 5th grader who recently scored 23 points in an AAU game and is an exciting talent as well.

HS Coach Evaluation: Allen Strothers is an awesome prospect! His development and work ethic will no doubt have him ranging as a top athlete in his class. Allen comes from a strong basketball pedigree. His ability to shoot with range and accuracy from deep three point range, his court vision, court awareness and his ball handling skills are some of his strong assets, however his ambidextrous passing ability and basketball IQ are his best skills. As his AAU coach and his trainer, he is developing into a coach’s ideal point guard. He is one of those guards that knows exactly where he's going on the floor and sees two plays ahead. He's understanding that he has the opportunity to do exciting things on the floor, so he's matching his efforts in the classroom. With his strong leadership skills, he controls the floor and pace of the game. He knows what to give when and when its needed. He has been competing majority of his AAU career with VA Hard2Guard above his grade level. His game is constantly evolving and even with the looming success, he is a very humble kid. – Coach Lamont Strothers, Nansemond Suffolk Academy

Coach Frank says: Allen's overall skill and knowledge of the game are advanced well beyond his age, he is a special talent! Allen has been exposed to elite training and skill development since the age of four under the mentorship of his father, former NBA guard Lamont Strothers so he has been exposed to things most players at any age let alone in middle and high school are not exposed to with regards to physical training, mental preparation and skills development. He plays with great enthusiasm; he communicates and is a positive and supportive teammate. Allen has great range on his jumper, is extremely consistent scoring at all levels. Among the best pure shooters in the 757 with disciplined shot mechanics, great extension! He has a variety of separation moves including his Dad's patented step back jumper. He is efficient with his touches as he takes good shots, has great vision and passing skills and as a lead guard keeps his teams turnovers to a minimum, the result of good decision making and delivering the ball to scorers where they can be effective. Allen is a crafty ball handler and gets to the rim with relative ease, finishes through contact and is an excellent passer on the move and passes very well with both hands, even off the dribble! He has a great motor, is a harassing on ball defender who can pressure the length of the floor and not get beat and he is a heady and quick closing off ball defender. You have to watch him and the little things he does on both ends that makes him so special. Among his most impressive assets is his physical preparation. He has a strong core, is very quick and shifty and he is strong despite his wiry appearance, sinewy. Allen is one of the most exciting prospects in the state not only because of he has the benefit of being trained by his father who played in the NBA but because he has solid work ethic, loves to compete and is a gifted shooter. In addition to being quicker than most opponents he is ball quick, the result of his discipline and sound fundamentals. He has a bright basketball future!
