We Got Nextt Recruiting Founder Demietrius Preston is the foremost source for high school and AAU sports in Alaska.' He has this to say about Mareng Gatkuoth:' Simply put, Mareng can be as good as he wants to be!' Now that's not an indictment on him or his work ethic, but the talent is most certainly there and has been for some time now.' The 6'5 guard out of Alaska (Sudanese decent) has a smooth game accentuated by an advanced feel and superb ball handling skills.' These traits along with his ability to score the basketball and make excellent reads out of the pick and roll allow him to play both guard spots.' His jumper can be a little streaky at times but when the shots are falling, Mareng can score from anywhere from midrange out to 25 feet.' Defensively Mareng can be a handful at times due to his excellent length (6'9+ wingspan).' He plays the passing lanes well. Overall he needs to improve his ability to keep smaller, quicker guards in front and just provide more effort.' As the saying goes, 'he has all the tools'.' Needs to add some more weight to his frame but otherwise passes the eye test to the 'T', especially as a 2019.' Whenever he does indeed fill out, it will only help his efforts.

There have been several players recently that have departed Alaska and seen their games and recruiting stock surge as a result, Mareng is no different.' He is a soft spoken kid who has yet to scratch the surface of how good he could become. I fully expect him to flourish in Virginia, ultimately becoming a mid to high major recruit before all is said and done.

Player he reminds me of from Alaska:' Devonaire Doutrive (Birmingham HS (CA)/Cal Supreme EYBL.''' Demtrieus Preston, @Wegotnextt on twitter.' Wegotnextt.com''

Coach Frank says: Division I coaches should add Mareng Gatkuoth to their watch list right now! 'A long and extremely athletic guard Mareng comes to the 757 from Anchorage Christian School in Anchorage, Alaska where he already carved out an impressive resume.' He does just about everything on the floor.' He is a skilled ball handler who can facilitate and get to the rim.' He can hit the jumper off the bounce or from deep and also attacks the basket aggressively finishing above the rim!' He is silky smooth, skilled and is a high IQ player with versatility and explosive quickness and bounce.' I watched him catch a pass near the three point arc on the wing and with a quick rip through and 1 dribble got the rim with eye opening explosiveness for a layup.' He eats up real estate in a hurry because of his quickness and length.' He is a court savvy player, finds open teammates and attacks space with a quick first step and intent.' He's strong, shifty and plays on balance.' He can defend any position as he combines quickness and athleticism with sound mechanics and a great motor.' Mareng is an excellent rebounder and impacts games defensively inside and away from the rim, contains the dribble fairly well and contests shots.' He is also a very good shot blocker!' The sky is the limit for Mareng and it's going to be fun watching him continue to grow as a player.' Mareng is training under and will play for former Wake Forest star Tony Rutland next season at Hampton Christian.' He is an impressive talent and should be on the watch list of D1 and D2 coaches.' One of the 757's most athletically gifted players; Mareng comes to the 757 via Anchorage Christian Academy (AK) where he was teammates with Williamsburg Christian Academy star Chester Makoi.
