Throughout the last year, 6-foot-7 Gavin Rains doubled-down as one of the most talented, yet unknown, prospects in North Carolina. He has a game tailor-made for the next level and possesses the necessary explosion to stay afloat at a lot of programs. It really wasn't that long ago when Rains first caught our attention, putting his head above the rim in warm-ups at a Phenom 150 Camp. Rains followed-up his high-level play with one of the most mature interview answers ever. Our Jamie Shaw asked Rains how he tries to affect each game, his response'

'Deflections, diving for loose balls, anything. I'll do whatever it takes to win. I feel like I can defend, score, and rebound pretty well, but I'm just focused on wining above all else.'

At the time, we said he had the potential to be a productive player at the Division I level, but now he's begun to truly prove that notion. Rains was utterly dominant this past season at Wheatmore High School, unanimously named as the 2A (PAC-7) Player of the Year after averaging a gaudy stat line of 23 PPG-14 RPG-3 BPG-2 SPG (including 24 double-doubles). There is still reason to believe that he can be even better, despite his consistently high level of play. At Phenom 150 Camp just six months ago, Rains paired up with Tomas Butkus and we saw how unstoppable he was with a true point guard, as both players easily made All-Camp First Team and received many MVP votes.

That was all over the recent months. Now, Rains is with one of the most notable North Carolina programs in Pro Skills Basketball (PSB Elite Frazier) and has seen an abundance of college interest coming his way as a result. While he'll likely be recruited to play power forward, Rains has great feel on the perimeter and could possibly provide effective minutes at the small forward position. He has an incredibly well-rounded game that should easily translate to the next level, but it'll be interesting to see which program gets to claim one of the most underrated prospects in the Class of 2019 in Rains.

Interest: New Hampshire, Wofford
