Mid-Afternoon standouts. A sold out list of some of the best high school’s in this region gathered at Proehlific Park to compete against one another at Phenom’s Summer Jam, Session 1.
Even early in the morning, first game set of the day the college coaches were baseline and the kids came out to compete.
Here are some of the standouts.
6’7” 2019 Brice Williams
Hopewell High School (NC)
Williams game continues to grow to a new level. With added strength, his offensive arsenal has become even more lethal. He spent his first game doing damage in the mid-range. The second game he banged in 6 threes. The wing, has a great frame and considerable ball skills/scoring ability. Charlotte and Lafayette are the early offers, he should get a significant amount more moving forward.
6’6” 2019 Matt Smith
Independence High School (NC)
Smith was one of the hottest names for the first half of this year. He picked up 10 or so offers and had a lot coming to watch him in April. Well Smith’s game has continue to expand, as he went 4-6 from three in this one. The form looked good, he is a mutli-positional defender and rebounds at a high rate. Mid level programs will be sitting hard on him in July.
6’6” 2020 Silas Mason
Ben L Smith (NC)
Mason is a known high riser and he stayed all over the rim here. Great in transition, when Mason fills the lanes aggressively he is tough to stop. Smith did a good job of getting him moving and into space, and Mason showed catch and shoot touch in the mid-range. Upside as a multi-positional defender, his game is loud and he has a lot to like, which is why he carries numerous Power 5 offers.
6’1” 2019 Nas Tyson
Forest Hills High School (NC)
Tyson continues to get better and better. Already carrying a Hampton offer, he showed that more should be coming soon. Tyson is a strong guard who can (and will) defend the point of attack. His jump shot is pure as he creates off the bounce and knocks it down off the catch. Tyson, is a tough and productive player, a winner who makes everyone around him better.
6’4” 2019 Tyler Dearman
Southern Guilford (NC)
Dearman is the most productive player in North Carolina, you’ve never heard of. A noted scorer he effortlessly puts up 25 each time out. He is a high IQ player who always seems to be in the right place. The lengthy shooting guard has deep, effortless range and plays the passing lanes very well.
