Coming off a 26 point output in his first game of three at Phenom’s Summer Jam Session 2, 6’6” forward Davis Guyton was feeling good about himself. The 2019 prospect is a noted shooter, but there was something special about today, there was something special about how the ball was coming out of his hand.
Guyton came out in his game against St Andrews School (Savannah, Ga) on a mission. A rising senior, the Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach rising senior does not have any scholarship offers. Coming off a junior season that saw him average 12 points per game and net 75 threes at a 40% clip, in 28 games played. He made his way onto numerous radars, but still no offers.
Phenom’s Summer Jam Session 2, took place at Ridge View High School in Columbia, South Carolina. Something was different about the day for Guyton. Perhaps it was the 10-15 coaches who were watching. Perhaps it was the lighting in the gym. However, Guyton erupted.
As we mentioned before, Guyton finished with 26 points in the first game on 4 made 3s. For contextual purposes, these games are 40 minute, running clock. In the second game, Guyton went for 54. Yes, we said that correctly, fifty-four points. In the 40 minute, running clock game, he knocked down 11 threes.
So far on the day, in 80 minutes of running clock, and two games played, 6’6” 2019 prospect Davis Guyton has scored 80 points, that is one point per minute. He has knocked down 15 threes in the two games as well.
He is doing it on his biggest stage, in front of scholarship carrying college coaches. If bucket getting at that rate does not earn you scholarships, not sure what will. One thing is for sure, he has earned them.
