Phenom's Open Gym Tour
Porter Gaud (Charleston, SC)
By Jamie Shaw

Porter Gaud is right in the middle of a special thing as a program. They are in the middle of a run of two straight state championships, so there is incredibly talent on the team. They also have a great alumni base of college and professional players, who all come back. Open gyms are incredibly intense with current, past and future talent all working.

Just this week two of Porter Gaud's seniors committed to perennial NCAA tournament teams as 6'9' Jake Lanford chose Yale and 6'6' Aaron Nesmith committed to Vanderbilt. There are numerous other college prospects on the team, looking to 3-peat.

Here is who to watch for'

The Committed
6'9' 2018 Jake Lanford (Yale)

Lanford is your consummate big man. He takes up space in the paint, is a very strong 2-handed rebounder in his area, he is vocal on defense and he can finish over both shoulders or step out to 18'. Lanford is going to a perennial NCAA tournament program and we should look for him to have a very productive career.

6'6' 2018 Aaron Nesmith
What an incredible year it has been for Nesmith. South Carolina offered him his first high major offer in April and by the time July ended he had over 35 offers. Nesmith's wing span is over 7' his vertical is 38'. He is a pure scorer with explosion and incredible upside to go. Vanderbilt got a potential all league type wing.

The Superstar
6'7' 2019 Josiah James

James is a Top 50 prospect in the 2019 class, nationally. He is a very unique talent who stands as a 6'7' point guard. James has great length and instincts on defense. Offensively, he has a shifty handle with the ability to get his shoulders event and keep you on his hip. He is great in the middle game and in transition and his jump shot is sharpening. Think PJ Dozier of the Dallas Mavericks

The Future
6'7' 2020 Chase Cannon

Watch closely to the development of Cannon. He recently transferred in to Porter Gaud and has already taken a step. What you notice first is the lefty is explosively athletic. He finishes at the rim with an assortment of 360s, windmills and dunks in traffic. He has soft touch and ability to put it on the floor from beyond the arc. Cannon has footwork and touch over his right shoulder. There is a lot to like about the future here.

5'10' 2020 Denham Wojcik
It is obvious right out the gate that Wojcik is a coaches kid. He has all of the tools and skills that come along with that notion. Wojcik is incredibly tough and gritty, he has a high basketball IQ and a tight handle with deep range on his jump shot. Wojcik's brother (also a late bloomer) stands 6'5' so there should be some growth to still be had here.

Available Seniors
6'8' Harrison Whatley

Whatley has great size, good athleticism and range extended beyond the 3-point line. He has good strength and understands the game. Whatley is a college level player.

6' Jack Nutley
Nutley is a sharp shooter. He has deep range with great touch and a picture perfect release. Nutley can handle the ball well under pressure and knows the game. Nutley is a college level player.
