6’7” 2019 Jae’Lyn Withers of North Mecklenburg (NC)

North Carolina’s 2019 class is spectacular. The entire region’s 2019 class is deep. However, one of the lesser talked about players (not sure why) is 6’7” Jae’Lyn Withers of North Meck.

Withers is the son of UNC Charlotte All-Time great Curtis Withers. With that said, the 6’7” sophomore is very much his own player. After a recent trip to watch him scrimmage this fall we wrote, “6’7 ’19 Jae’lyn Withers is going to be the next high-level player from North Mecklenburg. The youngster is simply oozing with upside and potential. Ja’lyn has tremendous length, athleticism and a matching skill set. Jae’lyn is a big time shooter and at open gym, he hit four consecutive long distance 3-pointers. He was dialed in from the perimeter and the step back 3-pointer was the icing on the cake. He is a star in the making!”

We have seen a lot of Withers over the last year. He has come to multiple exposure camps, multiple AAU tournaments, and high school events of ours. We have had the great fortune to evaluate him in all 3 settings.

As with most of the elite prospects in the state, Withers is an alum of the prestigious North Carolina Top 80. This event brings the best players in the state together to compete against one another. After his performance in the most recent North Carolina Top 80 we wrote, Jaelyn rebounded the ball extremely well from the wing position. He has terrific length that allows him to get his hands on a lot of balls. Jaeyln’s confidence grew as the day when by. He started to make plays in transition and played hard on both ends of the court. In the future, Jaeylyn will need to continue to develop his ball handling which will allow him to keep defenders honest. If he continues to develop his handles and stays aggressive and engaged in the game, he could become a matchup nightmare.”

Currently Withers doesn’t have any offers. However, his recruitment is sure to blow through the roof. It is only time before the offers start piling on, and that very well could start this week.
