White came on strong last year and EVERYone took notice. After playing in the 2015 version of Phenom’s National Showcase, White went on to be a consensus Top 75 prospect and ended up committing to his dream school University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Like most elite prospects in the state, White is a two time alum of the North Carolina Top 80. His talent was easy to see immediately. After the 2015 North Carolina Top 80 we wrote, “Coby White is a promising young PG that has unlimited potential and upside. He is highly effective scoring guard that has tremendous range and a soft shooting touch. Coby rebounds well for his position and already possesses a college frame, although he could use more strength like most high school underclassmen. The next step in his development is to become quicker laterally especially on the defensive side of the ball and to understand team defensive principals which will happen over time. That being said, Coby White is definitely one to put in your SIM CARD.”
White has showed out at the previous two Phenom’s National Showcase. In the last one he really turned some heads after dropped 34 points on Genesis Academy and their talented wings, Josh Hall (Nevada) and Greg Williams (Missouri State). After that event we wrote, “Nation, we introduce you to Coby White. The NC Top 80 alum was largely unknown coming into this event, and he left making his mark across the media table. White is a baby-faced kid with huge upside and a “go at your throat” mentality. White went for an event high 34 points against a very talented Genesis Academy team. Not only will he move up in the NC rankings, he should be looked at as a Top 100 player nationally.”
Still under ranked in the 60-75 range, White will turn some heads this year. Last season, as a sophomore, White averaged 28 points 8 boards and 7 assists for the year. Expect those numbers to jump drastically as he continues to rise in the national rankings.
