Phenom’s National Showcase Preview
5’10” 2018 Daniel Sackey of 22 Feet Academy (SC)
Sackey can flat out fly and his plays with such a major chip on his shoulder. His demeanor is infectious, and that is seen immediately when watching him perform.
This Summer, Sackey played on the Under Armour Association with his Canada Elite Team. On the circuit he averaged 9.5 points, 2 boards, 3 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. He also shot 48% from the field.
Sackey transferred this year to 22 Feet Academy in Anderson, South Carolina. We went and watched him this past weekend and wow were we impressed. We wrote, “Sackey plays, on both ends of the court, as if he has been shot out of a cannon. While he is smaller, he is compact and very strong. Sackey went for 30 points on the day, and did so showcasing a full offensive repertoire. He had 5 made threes and 3 And-1s. He is a difference maker.”
Last year Sackey played in Phenom’s National Showcase with St Louis Christian. He showed out for that event as well. Again his speed and toughness were very apparent, we wrote, “Really like this young man in the open court and running point for St. Louis. He can be extremely quick with the ball and uses that to his advantage to get to the rim or inside the defense. At times, played to fast which forced some tough shots or turnovers, but if he can learn to control his speed and make the right decisions, won’t be a bad one. Would like to see more consistency in his shot though as well.”
Right now Sackey carries offers from Winthrop, Stony Brook, Evansville, Siena, and Kent State. He has recently had the likes of UConn, Washington State, and others come through to watch him. If you don’t mind your point guards to be under 6’, Sackey is an absolute gamer against all comers.
