Bertie High School
Coach Derrick Bond
By Rick Lewis

Bertie High School finished 5-21 last year in the NCHSAA 2A classification and 3-9 in the Northeastern Coastal Conference. That being said, Coach Derrick Bond knew he had to rebuild the program since he started three freshmen, one sophomore and one junior in the 2016-17 season. Now, Coach Bond has formed a building block and the returning players are one year older and have more experience. Coach Bond has always been a 'half full' type of person and he is very excited about the upcoming season. Bertie High School will open up the season playing in the Phenom High School Jamboree Saturday, November 4th.

Bertie High School will return all its starters and six of their top seven scorers. While we feel Bertie is still one year away, don't tell that to coach Bond. He's excited and ready for the season to get started. Coach Bond stated, 'This group flashed their potential during the season by averaging 89 PPG during a four-game stretch toward the end of the season, including a season and school record high of 120 points scored against First Flight.

Now, we will take a look at the impact players for Bertie High School.

6'3 '20 Joshua Burden

Joshua Burden averaged 9.8 PPG, 4.3 APG and 4.9 RPG last season, however he twice scored a season high of 24 points. Joshua has all the physical attributes and intangibles to play collegiately one day.

Coach Bond stated, 'Joshua is a strong power point guard with excellent defensive skills and a strong offensive game.'

6'7 '19 Jaqwan Baylor

Jaqwan averaged 7.9 PPG, 8.3 RPG and 3.3 BPG. He is a versatile wing forward blessed with really good athleticism. Jaqwan has good length and is quite active on both ends of the court.

6'1 '19 Quatravis Reddick

Quatravis averaged 15.3 PPG, 2.3 RPG, and 3.4 APG last season but scored a career high of 37 points. The combo guard can score points from all spots on the floor and has good all-around speed and athleticism.
