Another edition of “Four Corners” with Phenom Hoops, as we bring you four different topics of interest and trust us, there is a lot to talk about with everything going on. Check out the latest…

2021 PG Jamarii Thomas earns offer from Winthrop

Jamarii Thomas from Piedmont Classical had an exciting weekend when he announced that he received his first Division I offer from Winthrop, a program that has been recruiting him for quite some time now.

“They have been recruiting me pretty hard over these last couple of months,” he reported to Phenom.  “Coach Kelsey told me I’m his No. 1 priority and that meant a lot to me.  I also visited Winthrop back in February and I enjoyed the atmosphere and the fans.”

Winthrop was the first to pull the trigger on an offer as far as Division I programs but Thomas also mentioned schools like Appalachian State, Maryland-Eastern Shore, UNCG, Elon, and Presbyterian have also expressed interest. Each has been talking to Thomas about building a strong relationship.

Interest picking up for 2021 6’6 Lucas Taylor from Heritage HS

The 6’6 prospect from Heritage high school put on a show all year long, averaging nearly 22 points per game and helping the Huskies to a 15-10 record this past season. With his production, Taylor was able to secure offers from Wofford and East Carolina, two schools that continue to stay in touch and develop a relationship with.

As far as interests though, Taylor has picked up a few ACC programs along with others.  Schools like Virginia, NC State, Wake Forest, Liberty, Charlotte, and Davidson have all been in contact recently.

“They are just excited and wanting to see me over the summer,” Taylor told Phenom Hoops.  “Liberty has definitely shown the most love.”

Taylor has taken a visit already to Liberty, Virginia, and NC State, all visits that he really enjoyed.

“I took a visit to an official visit to Liberty and every aspect of it was great; great family environment,” he said. “Virginia was top notch. It was a huge game against Louisville and they were able to pull out the win. I got to meet the coaches and they were all great and excited to see me again during summer ball. State was really cool as well; PNC was jumping and it was a good game against Clemson. I talked to Coach Keatts after and he has seen me play a few times, loved my game and can’t wait to see me this summer.”

Wichita State lands top unsigned senior in 6’6 Ricky Council IV

The Shockers certainly have been in the news lately, with several players entering their name into the transfer portal.  But that just means spots are open for recruits and Wichita State is looking to secure some top talent left on the board.  Already securing Ja’Dun Michael from The Burlington School, it looks like they have snagged yet another North Carolina talent.

Southern Durham’s Ricky Council IV was one of the top talents left but on Sunday night, he announced that he would be joining the 2020 recruiting class for Wichita State.

Council brings athleticism immediately to the floor and one that can fill up the box score. He scores on all three levels and can really impact the game on both ends. Council certainly has multiple highlight reels to show his game, including the senior highlights from Phenom Hoops.

2020 Kellen Tynes looking for a family environment at the next level

Phenom Hoops got their first look at Kellen Tynes from Rothesay Netherwood School back at the Hoops & Dreams event and he certainly stole the show and impressed. And schools are continuing to come his way and recruit him, looking for their next lead point guard in the coming years. Quinnipiac is the latest to offer Tynes and he had this to say about them:

“I’ve been talking with the coach there the past couple of days and he stressed the fact that they need a point guard who can come in and make an impact right away.  It’s a good mid-major conference… I feel like it could be a good fit.”

Quinnipiac joins Southern Illinois and Central Connecticut as the only offers he holds but he also mentioned he has a growing relationship with coaches at Bradley and Northeastern as well. And even though his recruitment is still ongoing, he is hoping to find the right fit and possibly make a decision around mid-to-late April.

“Something that seems like a family environment with coaches, that want you to be the best version of yourself and a school with a good business program,” Tynes said in what he is looking for in a school.
