Phenom Feast of Champions

Team Preview: Porter Gaud (Charleston, SC)

Porter Gaud has rapidly moved past the moniker of being one of the state of South Carolina's best teams and should now be considered one of the best team's this region has to offer to the country.

Over the last two seasons Porter Gaud carries a 52-7 overall record and won each of the last two NCISAA 3A state championships. Their line up is loaded with multiple top 100 prospects as well as multiple Division 1 signees.

Porter Gaud has started this season right where they left off last year, with a 2-0 record. They won each game by an averaged of 13 points over traditional regional powers Christ School and Greenfield.

Porter Gaud has quickly become must see tv, big time players mixed with great coaching and a winning tradition is usually a good recipe for success. Porter Gaud is right in the middle of an impressive run

Now let's take a look at the players.

6'6' 2018 Aaron Nesmith (Vanderbilt)
Nesmith has worked himself to becoming one of the premier shooting guards throughout the region. Standing 6'6' and weighing in at 210 pounds with a 7'2' wingspan, Nesmith is a physical specimen. He is a great scorer of the ball, as he will average over 20 points per game this season and should be the school's leading scorer for his fifth consecutive year (yes, he led them in scoring in 8th grade). Nesmith is a high flying wing, one who will string together a few highlight reel type plays, but also offer a smooth scoring effort. 247Sports Composite raking as Nesmith ranked 102.

6'9' 2018 Jake Lanford (Yale)
Lanford has quietly turned himself into a premier type low block player. He is very strong, has great length and very vocal along the back line. He is a battler, chasing rebounds and loose balls and he is able to score, on the block, when given the ball. Lanford carried over 20 offers throughout the process and chose Yale, a program who is in the hunt for an NCAA tournament bid every year. He is almost a guaranteed double-double each time on the floor, controlling the paint with ferocity.

6'7' 2019 Josiah James
James is an elite level prospect, Rivals.com has him ranked as the #31 prospect in the 2019 class. He has an offer sheet from 20+ high majors across the country, reflecting that of an elite level prospect. Watching James play, he has the poise of a seasoned veteran. He makes everyone on the floor better on both ends and is a threat for a triple double each time he steps on the floor. 31 should be just a start for him, he may end up higher across the board.

Other Notable Players
6' Unsigned Senior Jack Nutley
Tough player, rebounds position well and shoots the cover off the ball.

6'8' Unsigned Senior Harrison Whatley
Great size. Has touch, off the catch, from all 3 levels. Tough rebounder.

5'11' 2020 Denham Wojcik
Tough, coaches son. No moment too big, defends hard and makes shots with range.

6'7' 2020 Chase Cannon
Great length and athleticism. Lefty with some face up skills, one to watch moving forward.
