Every year it seems the David Rose Memorial Day Classic brings out the best in competitors. Good players step up to provide GREAT performances. This year, the event’s 5th year is no different. Even in their first games played, there have been some unbelievable performances.

Numerous coaches are already in the gym, kids are making their name onto the recruiting rosters.

Let’s take a look at some Mid Day Standouts from Proehlific Park

6’ 2021 Jaquante Harris
Taking it by Force

Harris took Phenom’s 3G Showcase by storm last week and he picked up here right where he left off. An aggressive, quick twitch player Harris has great touch and unbelievable instincts. Defensively he is a ball stopping point of attack defender. Offensively he is an aggressive downhill lead guard.

Where he really showed out in this game was his change of pace and ability to handle the ball as a point guard. He really handled the pressure well, never getting rushed on the floor. Harris is tracking as a cant miss 2021 player and one college should put firmly on their SIM Cards.

6’8” 2019 Jaelyn Withers
Team Loaded NC

Withers has long been talked about as a top prospect in NC. In fact, Phenom Hoops has had Withers in its Top 5-10 prospects since his freshman year. Wither is a lengthy and bouncy forward, who passes the look test. Once the ball is tipped, in this one he showcased an innate ability to score the ball.

Even though Withers has deep range, in this one he showcased the ability to finish everything 18 feet and in. He was a mismatch with his ability to get to the basket with his quick twitch aggression and above the rim explosion. Withers finished with 32 in this one, and it was a quick and efficient 32. Keep up this pace and he will earn Top 100 honors.

6’5” 2019 Trey Cousin
NC Top Flight

Cousin exploded for 45 points in the first game and followed that up with a very impressive 26. Cousin is missing his 6’8” post and 6’7” wing, both starters and scholarship level prospects. He had to take on a lot of the scoring himself. However, in this one, he showed the ability to be the focal point of the defensive attack and still finish and create.

Cousin has a great frame, very strong and good length. His jump shot is pure and he has the ability to get his shoulders even with his defender and keep him on his hip. Cousin sought out, and absorbed, contact very well showcasing the entire arsenal as a scoring guard. Putting up 35.5 points per game, against good talent, here showcases he is a D1 prospect and his recruitment in July should reflect this.

6’10” 2019 David Eilen
Team Stacked

Eilen is just scratching the surface and his upside is huge. Eilen has a great frame, great length and very athletic. His hands and his touch are great, as he seemingly catches everything around him. Eilen finished a couple of MASSIVE dunks in traffic in this one, both rim diving off the pick and roll. However, what stood out were the three 18 foot jump shots he made.

Eilen is a high academic kid who is newer to the game of basketball (only played for a couple of years). He is rapidly getting better, as he showcases the natural ability that translates (timing, hands, toughness). Watch closely here over the next year, he is a sure fire D1 player and could find him self a few levels higher if he continues on the pace he is already on.

6’2” 2019 Travion McCray
Team Loaded NC

We have always known that McCray was tough, explosive and an aggressive downhill player. He put up 44 points against NCISAA 2A State Champion Carmel Christian in the Final Four. He plays, always has, both ends with a chip on his shoulder.

Where his game has developed is as a true point guard. When surrounded by high level talent, he was able to touch the paint and make the right read. Skip passes, in the paint, off the bounce…Pick and roll reads…Floaters…McCray had the full gamut as a point guard. He carries 5-10 D1 offers, but mid majors should be all over him and the high majors should be looking close in July.
