Huge S/O to Coach Wright and his staff for allowing me to come thru and check out a super talented group featuring scholarship level talent from top to bottom. The demand for excellence, energy, communication, and mental awareness from this staff is something to behold. Yesterday, it was announced that 6’7 Alabama Commit Juwan Gary will be playing his senior season with this group, making this team even more talented than originally conceived. Gary was not at workouts on Thursday night, so we’ll look at the rest of this talented roster!
P.S. Every player on the roster is an NCAA Qualifier!
6’7 2019 Shayne Scruggs
Scruggs is one of those kids that you see and immediately looks like a top 150 talent before he even touches a basketball. He simply has a body that translates to the next level, he’s truly 6’7 with incredible length and super broad shoulders that give him an athletic frame that will have coaches chomping at the bit. He possesses incredible footwork on the block, smooth jump-shooting mechanics and incredibly mobility, giving him an ability to guard 4 positions. He looks to be a bonafide top 150 type talent and coaches in need of a versatile forward should come check him out!
6’5 2019 Deante Petree
Petree is the kind of kid you hate to play against, but love to have on your team. He brings a level of intensity, toughness, and leadership unlike most prospects his age are capable of to go with incredible versatility at both ends of the court. He competes at a super high level defensively to go with incredible vision at the offensive end. He’s the kind of kid that can lead you in any statistical category on any given night. If he goes to the right program at the next level, he has the potential to become a fan favorite and team leader from day one.
6’0 2020 Antonee Abraham
Abraham is a super talented point guard that consistently makes the right decision while always playing with great pace. He’s got a chance to play a key role on this super talented team, initiating offense, knocking down shots, and just simply being a productive leader in the backcourt. I’m excited to see how he fits in with this group.
6’5 2020 Cam Edwards
Edwards might be this groups best shooter with a knack for knocking down shots in catch and shoot situations. He possesses an excellent frame making him a body on the glass and an ability to guard bigger players with that strength. He has the green light to take just about any shot on the floor so expect him to have a huge year for this team.
6’8 2020 Kevin Boykins
Boykins is still relatively raw as a prospect, but his tools are seriously worth noting. He’s 6’8 with incredible mobility and super long arms, making him an impact defensive player for this group. He responds incredibly well to coaching, continually getting better and better so those tools are maximized. He will definitely play a role as a front-court defender, and I expect that role to expand as he gets more comfortable within his body and continues to develop that skillset.
5’11 2019 Ian Woodson
Woodson is another super sound lead guard that will have a major impact on the success of this group. He’s more than comfortable running a team, portraying excellent communication skills while leading his team on both ends of the court. He’s a pesky defender that makes the opposition work for every inch, often picking his man up full court. He’s one of those kids you just root for with the effort he brings on the court.
6’5 2020 Astor Francis
Francis is a really unique player, he looks like an SEC Tight End with guard skills, making him incredibly intriguing as a prospect. He does a great job using his strength to his advantage on the offensive end, backing down smaller players and using his excellent touch around the basket for easy buckets. With improved consistency on his jumper, Francis has a chance to further improve his stock as a prospect, and is definitely worth a look by scholarship coaches.
6’0 2019 Deuce Dixon
Dixon is this teams vocal leader, he’s been around this program for a few years now so he knows what this coaching staff is looking for out of him. He is incredibly quick and savvy on the offensive end with an ability to create his own jumper off the bounce from beyond the arc or in the mid-range. He’s super comfortable in the pick and roll, limiting mistakes and playing smart basketball. Dixon has the chance to be an instant culture guy at whatever program can get him for college.
6’6 2020 Kahari Rogers
Rogers might be the best prospect on this team, at 6’6 he can initiate offense, play both guard spots, and knock down any shot on the court. His shooting mechanics are simply beautiful and that’s why they go in so often. Off the catch, dribble, coming off screens, in the pick and roll… it doesn’t matter, it’s going in. He reminds me a lot of Bradley Beal with his ability to play either guard spot and kill a defense in so many different ways. If he plays his cards right he will likely finish high school as a top 100 prospect and have dozens of high level division one programs offering scholarships. He’s a bonafide star.
6’4 2019 Christian Koonce
Koonce does a great job knocking down shots and doing the little things for this group. He’ll play a key role as a glue guy that can explode for a huge offensive performance on any given night. Considering his ability to shoot at 6’4, Koonce is a scholarship level kid that will be a really nice piece for whatever coach gets him next year.
