Carmel Christian was back in action on Day 2 after securing a win on Day 1, while New Faith Christian (GA) came into town to make some noise. Carmel Christian started out strong behind Cade Tyson and Ben Burnham, using their length and skillset to their advantage. But it was the 3-ball for New Faith Christian that helped them keep within striking distance, especially from DeChun Rutherford with 4 3’s in the first half. But New Faith found themselves down 43-32 at the half.

In the second half though, Carmel continued to use an effective and efficient offense, with Burnham leading the way with 13 second-half points, while others also got involved, really showing a balanced attack on offense.  They were able to extend their lead to 20+ points closer towards the end and took home the win.  Cyncier Harrison had himself a game in the second half, scoring 19 of his 26 in the half.

Final: Carmel Christian 88 – New Faith Christian 69

Stat Leaders:
Carmel Christian:
– Ben Burnham 22 points
– Cade Tyson 19 points
– Justin Taylor 16 points

New Faith Christian (GA):
– Cyncier Harrison 26 points
– Robert Fields Jr. 13 points
– DeChun Rutherford 12 points

Standouts:

2022 5’11 DeChun Rutherford (New Faith Christian): Rutherford may be one of the smaller guards on the court but he really stepped up his game using his quickness and range, knocking down multiple three’s in the first half and continuing to stay aggressive to lead his team.

2022 6’7 Cade Tyson (Carmel Christian): Tyson can be a mismatch on the court for opponents, with his 6’7 frame, ability to handle and put the ball on the deck, score inside and out, and show a tremendous IQ on the floor.  With his size, he also can make an impact on the boards and in other areas.

2021 6’1 Cyncier Harrison (New Faith Christian): Harrison certainly reminded everyone in North Carolina about his game, scoring 19 of his 26 points in the second half. But the quick guard was able to create off the dribble, pull-up with ease, and score from all levels of the floor.

2021 6’9 Ben Burnham (Carmel Christian): Burnham is just a walking mismatch, putting together another impressive performance with 22 points, using his length well, his bounce, and his versatility on the floor.  His combination of size and skill is absolutely tough.
