Sometimes you just know. When you watch Quali Price play, his advanced skill level, his court swagger, his decision-making and composure, his athleticism, you just know. Quali handles the ball as if it were an extension of his arm. Quick, low dribbles and quite the inventory of dribble moves. Crossovers, inside outs, pullbacks, between the legs, behind the back and he executes each flawlessly. He uses jabs, hesitations shot, and pass fakes and has really been coached up nicely. Quali has a super quick first step and slices through defenses effortlessly. He’s so quick and speedy, has great balance and vision, and poses both a scoring and passing threat on the move. Elite athleticism!
He’s very good at collapsing defenses and kicking out to shooters or hitting cutters. The threat of his jumper opens up the floor and he attacks space decisively with his quick burst and speed and shows great touch finishing with runners or off the glass. He can also stop on a dime and knock down the jumper off the dribble at an impressive rate. I watched him in a recent weekend event and through three games he shot 8 for 12 from behind the three-point line! His mechanics are sound, and his release quick and smooth. His high release allows him to get his shot off against taller defenders although he has good length and a long wingspan which helps. He can create separation with step-backs and backs defenders off with jabs or fakes and elevates quickly into his jumper. Quali plays with great energy and is an exciting player to watch on both ends of the floor. His relentless ball-hawking defensive pressure allows him to be an impact presence on both ends of the floor. He rebounds, blocks shots. Sits down and defends the dribble and can snatch it away from a careless ball-handler in the blink of an eye. He’s special! He’s been coached up and he has obviously invested time and effort into developing his game. He had an impressive and inspiring family member to mold his game after.
Quali is the cousin of the late Ashley James who teammates, fans, and opponents alike could not help but adore. Ashley was admired because he was personable and outgoing because you couldn’t help but admire his talent, athleticism, and work ethic…and because he was a winner! He made winning plays and every time his team needed a basket or a defensive stop he delivered. Every time! We featured Ashley James on Phenom Hoop Report as an 8th grader demonstrating all the same characteristics were seeing in Quali’s game. Ashley went on to earn all-state honors twice and was a Missouri State commit. Quali is driven and plays with great confidence. His work ethic on and off the court is unmatched. He has all the makings of a future star in the 757 just as his cousin was. Keep his name in your memory banks because Quali Price is going to be a special player.
