Aaron Elliott 5’11 150 2025 Lake Taylor HS (VA) / Norfolk Titans 14U
Aaron is an exciting prospect whose advanced skill level, his natural feel, his poise, and maturity all stand out as you watch him play but what really impressed me most is his natural leadership and communication skills. Even as a 14-year-old incoming freshman he has command of the varsity offense, he is vocal and poised. His decision-making is solid and he plays at his own pace, undeterred in a situation.
Aaron is a pass-first point guard who changes speeds and directions abruptly and uses blow-by-quickness and rangy strides to beat his defender. His vision is spectacular and he is able to deliver pinpoint and timely passes. He gets into the lane with good regularity, reads defenders, and knows how to get the ball to his scorers. Already a talented and well-schooled and effective distributor. Aaron is also a threat as a scorer and taps into his great quickness and shiftiness nicely to get where he wants to on the floor. He is comfortable and efficient shooting dribble pull-ups and he uses a very good step-back jumper to create space. His step-back move is really good, probably a signature move! Has a great touch using the floater to score over length. He uses change of pace and change of direction with the ability to accelerate quickly and demonstrates excellent balance and body control. Aaron uses jabs nicely, passes, and shot fakes. He has the ability to recognize offensive opportunities and the tools to exploit them, knows when to attack and when to slow it down. Understands pace. Aaron knows how to beat defenders in the open floor and keeps his eyes up probing the floor for an opportunity to deliver a pass to an open teammate. He is relentless in attacking the defense and is a very efficient and reliable ball handler. Aaron can hit the three-pointer and also shows creativity finishing around contact at the rim and being able to absorb contact. He moves off the ball nicely and is threat to knock down shots from anywhere on the floor but is most effective attacking a hard closeout with a ball fake or a jab and then a quick burst and then allowing his natural playmaking skills go to work. Aaron is an athletic and active defender. Uses his quick feet and sound technique and is a solid on-ball defender.
Aaron is the younger brother of former Lake Taylor High School forward and strong interior presence Amahd Elliott who helped lead the Titans to the state title game in 2016. Lake Taylor is known for its history of solid guard play and Titans Head Coach Derek “Yogi” Edwards is considered one of the area’s top skills coaches and coaches Aaron in AAU and will eventually be his high school coach. Aaron has been a standout guard for Coach Edwards in AAU and knowing the expectations and that familiarity with one another should help in a quick transition to high school play where I expect Aaron will be an immediate contributor and impact floor general. An exciting prospect with a tremendous amount of potential and all the intangibles that you look for in your point guard.
