Tyler Tanner 6’0 150 2024 Brentwood Academy (TN) / Boo Williams EYBL

Just remember the name because you’ll hear it a lot in the future. Tyler Tanner is a natural, he’s a player! He has advanced skills, great feel, poise, intelligence, he’s extremely athletic, he makes winning plays and he makes everything look so easy! I watched him at a recent event get four steals in the first quarter of a game and I took notice as he showed excellent anticipation skills and quickness. He keeps his hands busy and can strip a ballhandler at the blink of an eye or help and strip a dribble or shot attempt and turn it into fast-break points the other way. He uses long strides and is dazzling in the open floor as a scorer and a distributor. He can make a dribble move in stride and really pushes the ball quickly up the floor showing good decision-making skills.

Tyler communicates on both ends and he’s also scrappy and tough! He handles the ball so well, quick and tight with the dribble and he dribbles with purpose. He is quick and is also equipped with an explosive first step allowing him to blow by defenders with ease. He plays with great pace and confidence. He scores with runners and floaters and hits the pull-up jumper at a very good rate demonstrating textbook mechanics and he’s silky smooth! Tyler can break you down off the dribble and shows creativity and comfort scoring against length. His touch is terrific, his vision extraordinary as he finds cutters, and is a very good passer. And oh yeah, he can flat out shoot it! He’s a guy who gives you 3-4 three-pointers a game and has had as many as 6 three-pointers in a high school game. His release is lightning quick, the result of sound technique and shot preparation and he converts at a very high percentage.

Tyler can hit spot-ups, score off dribble pull-ups from deep and he does a great job reading defenders and coming off screens, and knocking down shots. He creates space nicely with step-backs and always stays on balance. He can drive you hard and suddenly get into his step back and leave a defender helplessly buckling forward as he pops back and elevates so smoothly into a near-automatic jumper. His stops and starts are abrupt and decisive! He’s not only a tremendous basketball talent, Tyler is an elite-level athlete and he really knows the game. He’s been coached up nicely but the intangibles are all there and I’m so excited about his potential. I watched him two separate events and both times came away knowing he was one of the best prospects in the gym if not the best!
