Corey Hunter 5'11 160 2024 Nansemond River High School, Suffolk, VA

Corey is the kind of player a coach has to love!' He is a strong and athletic guard who has a relentless motor and a won't be denied attitude.' He competes on both ends of the floor as hard as anybody and has a nice blend of strength, speed, and tenacity that makes him an impact on both ends of the floor.' He has a capable jumper with three-point range, better on spot-ups but capable of knocking down shots in a variety of ways but his strength offensively lies in his playmaking potential.'

Corey uses an impressive combination of strength and speed that allows him to blow by defenders to get to the basket, endure contact, and score while also showing the ability to find cutters and create scoring opportunities for teammates.' He uses a low cross or solid first step to attack on a straight line.' Does a great job initiating contact and is strong enough to play off that contact to get an angle where he uses a quick burst and fearlessness attacking the rim.' His next step following a breakdown move is so decisive!' 'Corey can play through contact and is always the aggressor offensively looking to get into the paint to score and distribute the basketball.' You know he's coming but stopping him from getting there is a different story.' He's shifty, speedy, strong, and skillful enough to take advantage of those assets.'

Defensively Corey is a nightmarish foe.' He can defend in space and loves to do so. He can guard you 94' from opening tip to final buzzer and never seems to slow while harassing you with constant energy and pressure.' Corey has quick, disciplined footwork, instincts, and anticipation skills and is an impact defender.' He can play quick or physical and just buys in defensively and loves a challenge.' Corey's JV coach and former Nansemond River High School JV head coach and varsity assistant coach Craig Frost when asked about Corey's impact offered his insight.' 'Corey's biggest asset is his tremendous competitiveness and will. On the defensive end of the floor, he will guard full court non-stop all game. He does not tire or back down from anyone.' On offense, his ability to move without the ball gets him easy looks at the basket.' He has a good shot, but his strength is slashing and scoring in transition. He is strong around the rim. Corey grows by the dribble.' He will be hard to contain in the coming years.' – Coach Frost, Deep Creek High School Head Men's Varsity Basketball Coach.' '

I agree with Coach Frost that Corey will be hard to contain in the coming years and I expect he will be one of the most impactful two way players in the area as his high school career progresses.
