Jamari is a physically imposing and athletically gifted wing who offers tremendous versatility and a great feel on both ends of the floor. He scores from all levels but is most dangerous off the dribble as he has the quickness to beat most defenders and also uses his powerful and chiseled frame to bully many defenders to get to the rim. A very good shooter from beyond the arc mostly with spot-ups his high release point and long wingspan allow him to get shots off over taller defenders. He plays off the threat of his jumper nicely and attacks hard closeouts with a combination of quickness, strength, and aggression. Likes to get downhill where he taps into his physical and athletic resources and then some creativity as a finisher. His great balance and body control coupled with his powerful frame allow him to finish through contact at a good rate.
Jamari does a very good job passing out of drives and shows good vision and the willingness to create for others as well as himself. Shows plenty of potential as a secondary creator as he handles the ball nicely and really sees the floor well, makes solid decisions, and is highly unselfish. Very good in transition or operating in space. He shows comfort and efficiency pulling up off the dribble in the mid-range. Jamari is an explosive leaper who elevates so quickly off the floor on first and subsequent jumps and when he gets his strong hands on the basketball you ain’t taking it away from him! Jamari can defend any position at the high school level! He has the lateral quickness, length via a massive wingspan, and strength to keep his man in front of him. His instincts and quickness in passing lanes make him a great off-the-ball defender and he makes winning plays! That is no more apparent than watching him come from help position or seemingly out of nowhere to block shots or come up with a big steal as he is seemingly always in position defensively to make a play. A fantastic rebounder he can grab the ball off the glass and lead the break and creates extra possessions for his team because of his activity on the glass both offensively and defensively.
Jamari is the type of defender you can rely on to not only guard the other team’s best guy and render him ineffective but he is always there to make a key stop or grab a big rebound. He talks on both ends, his motor is constant and he loves doing the hard work. Jamari also starred on the football field at Petersburg High School last season but basketball is his passion and he definitely plays with a passion few players possess. Can’t help but have high expectations for Jamari Garnett.
