Leon Rodgers 6'3 195 2022 Indian River High School, Chesapeake VA

Leon does a great job combining length, a strong sturdy frame, a solid handle, vision and crafty playmaking skills and has become an impact point guard at the high school level.' He understands how to use his strong frame against smaller guards and his impressive array of breakdown dribble moves and a powerful burst against bigger defenders.' He routinely gets into the lane where he is a threat to not only score at an efficient rate but also deliver accurate and timely passes.' His length allows him to throw over the top of many defenders as well and he is more than a handful for defenses because he is equipped physically and fundamentally with the tools to not only run an offense and lead a team but to provide plenty of scoring punch from all levels.'

Not one to blow by defenders with great quickness, Leon does have a nice burst and powerful, rangy strides that allow him to eat up real estate quickly but he understands angles and has the ability to get his body between the ball and the defender.' He uses crossovers, inside-out dribbles, and between the legs dribbles and timely hesitations to keep defenders off balance.' He has the ability to play slow and then use a sudden burst to get an angle or beat his man and get into the paint where you’re really at his mercy.' Leon can hit the pull-up jumper at a good rate, creates separation nicely, and buries the pop back or step back jumper with good consistency.' He also likes to use a double-clutch dribble move combining the step back with a dribble pause and then an attacking burst putting the ball on the floor against a closeout and getting to the rim.' He's very crafty and does a great job in isolations because of his physical profile and his skillful use of the dribble.'

Leon is strong enough that once he gets you on his shoulder it's a wrap.' He also has a very active off-hand and uses that to his advantage both protecting the basketball and keeping defenders at bay.' 'Leon is a punishing finisher throwing his nearly 200-pound frame into defenders as he launches an assault on the rim yet also shows a soft touch and very good body control allowing him to contort his body so as to finish around the length and uses the glass effectively.' He uses pivots nicely and plays through contact well.' A smart offensive player who uses strength and variety as a shot creator and playmaker.'

On the defensive end, he is often tasked with guarding bigs at the high school level and matches their physicality well.' Leon is an active rebounder and shows very good mobility defending in space against wings and bigs.' His vocal leadership and high IQ are so key in his teams' success and he has really matured into a definite next-level floor general.' I expect with a solid summer of exposure and with a full high school season ahead he should see a sharp spike in interest from college coaches.
