Time to head up north for our latest Phenom Spotlight, as we look at 2021 Bernie Blount from Rocktop Academy. He has been simply putting up some impressive numbers this season, but that has been a common theme with his game over the years. Playing at Peddie School before coming to the Rocktop Academy, Blount has shown that he can be an absolute scoring force on the court.
Our very own Chick Gillespie recently checked out the scoring guard who put on a show in scoring 37 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. In speaking with him more about what he saw, he had this to say:
'I like him a lot. He is super quick with the ball, can shoot it with range, and he gets to the rim with quick bursts, leaving defenders flatfooted. He has a tight handle as well. His dad played at St. Joe's in Philly as a defensive wizard.'
We spoke with Blunt after to learn more about his thoughts on his game.
'If I would describe my game, I would say I'm a scoring point guard that gets others involved and makes his teammates better as well.'
As far as recruitment goes, it hasn't taken off quite yet but it is starting to pick up, as schools from the A-10, CAA, and Patriot league have all been showing interest.
With a season in which he is averaging 24 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, and is shooting nearly 49 percent from three, those interests could become offers quickly.
