South Carolina is loaded with underrated talent and teams, and it is time we start highlighting more players and teams from around the state. All throughout, there have been teams playing at a high level this season, and they deserve the attention.
Team: James F. Byrnes Rebels
Top Scorers:
2024 Will Fowler: 18.0ppg, 3.9rpg, 3.3apg
2024 Kayzzin McDowell: 13.0ppg, 5.4rpg, 1.6apg, 1.9spg
2025 Evan Enos: 8.9ppg, 4.3rpg
2027 Colt Fowler: 8.7ppg, 2.6rpg, 4.8apg
Byrnes has been racking up the wins this season, recording 20+ wins on the season and looking strong heading into the playoffs. When you look at this team, this is a team that battles, can knock down shots, and battles on both sides of the ball.  Talking about this team, they are led by their two seniors in 2024 Will Fowler and 2024 Kayzzin McDowell. Fowler controls the tempo and is a strong floor general who not only gets others involved but can be a strong scoring option. He makes the right plays, attacks the defense, gets to the line, and is effective inside but also can step out. McDowell has a confident release and certainly can be a game-changer with his perimeter shooting. Time after time, we have watched him showcase his shooting ability with a smooth release. On the season, he has over 60 made threes on the season and counting.
2025 Evan Enos can be a matchup problem and has been a valuable piece for this team. He has good size at 6’8, can get to his spots from outside whether it is trailing or popping out, opens up the defense with his perimeter game, but also can make plays off the bounce. Freshman Colt Fowler has stepped up as well, not being afraid to be an effective scoring option but also doing an excellent job in finding teammates and setting them up, as he leads the team in assists per game.
And of course, several others have stepped up and provided valuable roles for this team, which is why this team is averaging nearly 74 points per game but also being effective on the defensive end.
