Sometimes, there are players that simply go overlooked; it happens all the time. But at Phenom Hoops, that is where we try to thrive and bring a little light their way and their game. Our next player that we wanted to shed some light on is 2022 KJ Keatts from Grace Christian.
Yes, the last name may look familiar, as KJ is the son of NC State head coach Kevin Keatts but this 5’10 guard brings some game as well to the floor that should be looked at as well. When watching Keatts operate on the floor, he has tremendous speed with the ball in his hands, whether making plays for others or getting into the paint to score. With his quick first step and how scrappy he plays, Keatts is one that can make plays on the floor.
Our very own, Colby Lewis, recently took in an open gym practice with Keatts on the floor and had this to say about his game.
“5’10 2022 KJ Keatts is a quick, speedy guard who makes a living getting into the paint and creating scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. He returns to the point guard position and will be a leader on this team. Keatts will set the tone on both ends of the floor. He will pressure opposing ball-handlers on the defensive end, and he will facilitate on the offensive end.”
He is coming off a strong July period in which he averaged 15 points, six assists, and two steals per game and is looking to do much of the same during the high school season. This is a young man though that should catch a few more eyes in what he provides on both ends, as he helps lead Grace Christian on the floor this year.
Coach’s Thoughts (DeShannon Morris):
“KJ has been awesome to coach with all that he has had to overcome, he has not once complained. He is a “TRUE” point guard and a very skilled player. Kevin Joshua Keatts has grown in his understanding of the game and is poised for an epic season with us. He makes game-winning plays and makes others better around him. I am grateful to call him family!”
