It is finally here. The AAU season kicks off in style with Phenom Hoops, as we head to Greensboro to open the season with the Phenom Opening. Players of all ages will come to North Carolina in hopes to compete and start the season off.
This will be a CAN’T MISS EVENT, as we may have never started off the season with this much talent on so many levels. That is why we are hoping to get everyone excited as much as we are. Get to the event early, as we expect this event to be a packed house.
To start the buzz around the Phenom Opening, Phenom Hoops is providing a small preview of players to watch for at the event. Check out the names below.
Team: Carolina Riptide 16u
5’10 2021 Clay Hodges Carolina Riptide
Coaches Talk: Best compliment an opposing coach can say about another player is that this kid is a pain in the — to play against. We mean this in a good way. He gets after it, playing 100mph in the process and walks that line between big-time player and a kid you want to punch if you are on the other team. Think along the lines of former Duke star Grayson Allen. Those types of players are infectious if they play under control and can focus that energy for his teams good. So far, that is what we have seen from him.
6’0 2021 Callahan Reed Carolina Riptide
Coaches Talk: Reed is the kind of guy you want on your team in the sense that he does all of the little things necessary to get a tough win. Chasing down loose balls, fighting for offensive rebounds, and just being a general pest. He’s simply an all-around competitor that every team could use.
6’5 2021 Jacob Morgan Carolina Riptide
Coaches Talk: Though somewhat wiry, Morgan seems to always play his game and finds success. He scores efficiently from all three levels and thrives without the ball as a spot-up option, but is also capable of utilizing his length and finishing through contact at the rim.
