Phenom Opening Session 1

NE Guilford HS, Court 3

Late Games Standouts

The calendar has flipped to April so that means AAU ball is in full effect. Teams and talent converged on Greensboro this weekend in an effort to hone their skills and get some exposure heading into the live period in a few weeks. As always, several players showed out. Some of the names to know from the morning session here on court 3 at NE Guilford HS are as follows:

Christian Battle, 5’ 2022 G with Wilson Elite – Might be tiny but brings a BIG shot into the gym. Kid was hitting from beyond NBA range when we watched him. What really surprised though was his ability to put the ball on the floor and drive to the lane. He shows no fear in his game. We’d love to see him develop his PG game and grow some but he’s young still so that will come. Shooters always get looks and if he stays the course, he’s going to be one of the top shooters in his class in NC.

Tyler Ledwell, 6’ 2022 W with Team Winston 14U – We have a soft spot in our hearts for glue guys, and that’s what Tyler’s skill set allows him to be. We watched 2 of his games courtside today and each time he did a bit of everything for his team. He can cover multiple spots on the floor on defense as well. Lots to like here. We will be watching his development.

Davon Jones, 6’3 2022 W with Wilson Elite 14U – Big time prospect in the 2022 class here. Kid is already playing above the rim and is only going to get better as he continues to grow and mature as a player. We’d love to see a better motor in his as right now he can coast in games, relying on physical gifts to get him by. He could develop into a dominate player in NC for his class. Or, he could never realize his potential. The future for this kid is in his own hands.

Lamont Speight, 6’2021 G with Wilson Elite 16U – Young shooter played up and more than held his own. While others looked to be on dead legs, he was fresh and had the jumper falling. He has range easy out to the 3 point line and showed he could get it done off the attack as well. Will rebound well from the wing also. Will need to find another gear in his motor and some consistency but we see enough to be intrigued by his potential.

Trey Pittman, 6’6 2020 F with Wilson Elite 16U – Long and lanky 2020 prospect shows some inside out capability here. He needs to get stronger in the paint but shows the skill to excite. Looks more comfortable with his face-up game right now but as he fills out and gains strength he has the feet to be productive with his back to the basket.

Jordan Cooper, 5’7 2019 G with Carolina Conquerors – This dude was made to score the ball. A quick trigger, endless range and an assortment of moves makes him dangerous with the ball in his hands. Lack of size works against him but when you can score from half court one time and blow into the lane for a pull-up the next it makes it hard to complain about his size.
